The Complainant submits this complaint to the Court and states that there is probable cause to believe
Defendant committed the following offense(s):
COUNT I

Minnesota Statute: 609.52.2(a)(1), with reference to:  609.52.3(2)
Maximum Sentence: 10 years and/or $20,000 fine

Charge Description: On or about 3/16/2018 through 3/26/2018, in the County of Dodge, State of
Minnesota, the Defendant, Lois Ann Riess, did intentionally and without claim of right takes, uses,
transfers, conceals or retains possession of movable property of another without the other's consent and
with intent to deprive the owner permanently of possession of the property; and the value of the property
or services stolen exceeded $5,000.

STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE 3/27/2018 02:22:46 PM

Your Complainant is a sworn peace officer and has reviewed police reports relating to the above-named
Defendant, Lois Ann Riess, DOB, 2/28/1962 (56), and the allegations contained herein. Based upon that
information, your complainant believes the following to be true and correct. 

On March 26, 2018, in Dodge County, MN, Inv. Bohle received information from a bank regarding possible
unauthorized transactions on the victim’s account. Inv. Bohle contacted the bank and learned that the victim
had two accounts with the institution. Inv. Bohle was already aware that the victim was deceased and
believed the death occurred sometime on March 21, 2018. 
The victim had both a business account for Prairie Wax Worm Farms LLC as well as a personal bank
account with the bank. Inv. Bohle was informed that over the previous week Lois Riess had brought in
payment checks made out to Prairie Wax Worm Farms LLC. The checks were deposited by Riess into the
victim’s personal account. The bank stated this should not have happened, but because both the victim’s
accounts were through them, they did not stop the deposits. Inv. Bohle learned that the checks were in the
amounts of $8,684.80 and $1,209.60. The bank was able to show a picture of the person depositing the
checks and Inv. Bohle noted it was Riess. 
The bank stated that Riess had brought in three checks written out to herself from the victim’s personal
account. These checks were in the amount of $2,500, $7,500, and $1,000. The last two checks were
cashed by Riess on March 23, 2018. The bank indicated that after reviewing the checks, they believed
there may be an inconsistency with the victim’s signature on the 5 checks from these transactions as
compared to the victim’s signature card. The bank was able to show a picture of the person cashing the
checks and Inv. Bohle noted it was Riess. 
The bank informed Inv. Bohle that Riess was not an authorized on either of the victim’s accounts to write
checks. The bank records show Riess deposited close to $10,000 of Prairie Wax Worm Farms LLC
money into the victim’s personal account, and then in a short period of time had checks made out to herself
in the amount of $11,000 drawn from the victim’s personal account. 
The bank also informed Inv. Bohle that the victim’s debit card had been used over the weekend of March
23, 2018. Inv. Bohle was able to confirm that the victim was not the user of the card. 
As of March 27, 2018, Inv. Bohle has been unable to locate Riess. 
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled
court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may
otherwise be issued by the Court.

From the above sworn facts, and any supporting affidavits or supplemental sworn testimony, I, the Issuing Officer, have
determined that probable cause exists to support, subject to bail or conditions of release where applicable, Defendant’s arrest
or other lawful steps be taken to obtain Defendant’s appearance in court, or Defendant’s detention, if already in custody,
pending further proceedings. Defendant is therefore charged with the above-stated offense(s).
