STEWARDSHIP: The Lord Has Work For You: Countless
people have contributed to our formation in ways that are not always obvious. Think, for instance, of the many church members who have volunteered their time and talent to serve their church. Parents, grandparents, relatives, neighbors, friends, church members—all are the means that God uses to make faith and hope and love come alive and grow in the hearts of people. You are called to do for them what others once did for you.

Our Stewardship of Treasure for 9/5/10 amounted to $6,665.67 / Our Children’s Collection = $11.00
Please remember to place Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in your Will. Those who generously did this in the past have helped us to stay out of a heavy debt.

September 12, 2010 Dear Parish Family, This is the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. This is also Catechist Sunday here in our parish. At the 10 AM Mass today, all who are involved in teaching the faith will be blessed and commissioned for the new pastoral year just beginning. Catechists from our Religious Education Dept., RCIA/RCIC, and our Baptismal Preparation program are included in today’s commissioning. I welcome our Religious Ed students back to their first class. I thank and welcome the catechists who are helping reach our young people with their time and talent. Lastly, I welcome Angela Connelly to our parish staff as our new Director of Religious Education. Angela comes to us with much experience, vision, and dedication, and I’m so happy she is here with us. I have invited her to introduce herself in today’s bulletin. Below you will find the story of her journey to our parish. Thank you for your Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure, and for all the you do for our parish. Love, Fr. Larry

expand our program offerings to include Kindergarten and Pre-K and a Team Ministry for the Junior High grades (6-7-8). Beginning a Family Ministry for parents with newly baptized babies and children to age 4 is also a goal of the Religious Education Program. You will also see that beginning September 26th, Liturgy of the Word for Children will be offered every week at the 10AM Family Mass. The key word in all of this is “Family”. We are on the move. You are the families of OLQP, and I pray that your family will take advantage of what your church has planned for you. Remember, God loves you and is with you always. Thank you. I want to thank the many people at OLQP who have made me feel welcomed and part of your parish family during these summer months. Father Larry invited me here in June, and I immediately said yes. I knew that OLQP would be a great parish community to serve. I have served in the Religious Education Ministry and in Catholic education for my entire career. Working for the Catholic Church is working for God; and working for God is not a job, it is the ministry of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. I previously served as the DRE at Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus with Fr. Joe Pietropinto (I believe an old friend of yours) and most recently at St. Rose of Lima in Short Hills for a total of eight years. I’ve also taught elementary school and high school in the Archdiocese of Newark and served one year as principal at St. Michael’s School in Cranford. I come to OLQP professionally prepared with an MA in Education and a Catechetical Ministry Certificate from Immaculate Conception Seminary. In addition to teaching children, I have taught theology courses for adults and am active in Women’s Cornerstone (which I highly recommend to all women of the parish). As your Director of Religious Education, I believe it is important that parents benefit from and share in the planning of the faith formation of their children. To accomplish this all of us need to follow the teachings of Jesus and our Catholic Church. We are partners in the religious education of our children. To this end I envision parents and children coming together in small groups as part of a Family Based Catechetical Program. I hope that more people will offer their time and talent so we can

We are in need of a portable sound system. A few weeks ago, we had our second annual procession and recitation of the Rosary on parish grounds. It was difficult at best to hear the prayers and to be able to pray as a community outside. If anyone would like to donate a portable sound system for this purpose, please call the rectory.

Patroness of poor peasants and servants in the Tyrol. Born in Rattenberg, in the Tyrol, she was the daughter of peasants. At eighteen she became a servant in the household of Count Henry of Rattenberg. When Notburga repeatedly gave food to the poor, she was dismissed by Count Henry’s wife, Ottilia, and took up a position as a servant to a humble farmer. Meanwhile, Henry, suffering a run of misfortune and setbacks, wasted no time restoring Notburga to her post after his wife died. Notburga remained his housekeeper for the rest of her life and was famous for her miracles and concern for the poor.

Liturgical Ministries: As we look to the beginning of a new year full of excitement and energy here at Our Lady Queen of Peace, we ask you to search your hearts and ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern your Stewardship of Time and Talent. Perhaps the Holy Spirit is asking you to serve the people of God in a ministry in worship. Maybe you are called to become a Lector, to proclaim God’s Word at Mass? Maybe the Spirit is calling you to serve as a Greeter or Usher? Maybe you have been gifted with a musical talent in which case your stewardship may be in the Music Ministry? Maybe you wish to become an Altar Server assisting the priests at Mass? Think about what God is asking of you and prayerfully discern your Ministry. Why should I register in the parish? All members of the parish should be formally registered as members of the parish. However, you MUST be formally registered if you wish to arrange a Baptism, a Confirmation, or a Wedding in the parish Church. You MUST also be formally registered if you wish to register in the Parish School or the Religious Education (CCD) Program. You MUST be a registered member of the parish for at least three months before you can obtain a Sponsor Certificate or schedule a Baptism or a Wedding. PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS:

HOW SHOULD WE DRESS FOR MASS? Would you ever consider attending a formal dinner or a wedding dressed in a tee shirt and shorts, or a tank top and swimming trunks? Each Sunday the Lord invites us to His House. Are you dressed properly for this important Sacred Sacrificial Meal?

If you have a family member who is in a nursing home or rehabilitation center, please notify the Rectory so we can arrange to visit them.
