In general , adverse effect on pregnancy outcome are small and related to severity and control of
asthma.

The severity of acute exacerbation is divided in to three groups.

1-UNCONTROLLED ASTHMA IN ADULT

Speech must be normal ,with pulse of <110 b/m and respiratory rate ,25/mint , peak flow volume >50 %

Treatment nebulized salbutamol or terbutaline failure to respond refer to hospital and treatment can be
stepped up and course of oral steroid.

2-ACUTE SEVERE ATTACK

These patient will not be able to complete sentence will have pulse . > 110b/m respiratory rate >25/mint
peak flow <50%

Treatment o2 inhalation ,nueblisers refer to hospitawith an aminophylline infusion.

3-LIFE THREATENING ASTHMA

This is most serious of asthma exacerbations is characterised by a silent cyanosis , bradycardia or peak
flow of <33 %. Immediate hospital treatment is necessary with o2 , nebulisere , intravenous
aminophylline , oral steroids or intravenous hydrocortisone.

I l .MANAGEMENT Baseline investigation such as peak flow measurement .
