History of the company
John Deere was an American inventor and manufacturer of agricultural
equipment. In 1837, Deere started an eponymous company that went on
to become an international powerhouse.

Deere & Company (brand name John Deere) is an American corporation that
manufactures agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, diesel
drivetrains (axles, transmissions, gearboxes) used in heavy equipment, and
lawn care equipment. In 2016, it was listed as 97th in the Fortune 500
America's ranking and was ranked 364th in the Fortune Global 500 ranking in
2016 Since its founding in 1837, John Deere has seen a great many changes
in its business, its products, its services. John Deere also provides financial
services and other related activities. Deere is listed on the New York Stock
Exchange under the symbols DE. The company's slogan is "Nothing Runs
Like a Deere", and its logo is a leaping deer, with the words 'JOHN DEERE'
under it. The logo of the leaping deer has been used by this company for over
155 years. Over the years, the logo has had minor changes and pieces
removed. Some of the older style logos have the deer leaping over a log. The
company uses different logo colors for agricultural vs. construction products.
The company's agricultural products are identifiable by a distinctive shade of
green paint, with the inside border being yellow. While the construction
products are identifiable by a shade of black with the deer being yellow, and
the inside border also being yellow.
Tagline/ Slogan: - Nothing runs like a Deere

Past Leaders

Eight great leaders, same core values

John Deere has been very fortunate to have great leaders at the helm. In fact,
since its founding in 1837, there have been only eight previous captains of the
Deere enterprise. Most have been Deere family members. And, although the
past few leaders have not been part of the Deere lineage, John Deere remains
a family-oriented company determined to uphold the founder’s core values of
integrity, quality, commitment and innovation.

These eight leaders navigated the company through prosperous times,

through difficult times. And always with an eye on helping customers,
employees, dealers, investors, partners, communities, and nations develop,
improve, and benefit through their relationships with John Deere. Perhaps that
why John Deere is the company so many trust today.

2016 News Releases and Information

Deere Announces Third-Quarter Earnings of $489 Million
Weakness in global markets for farm and construction equipment leads to
decline in sales and net income; earnings per share show slight gain.
All company businesses remain profitable, benefiting from sound execution
and disciplined cost and asset management.
Full-year 2016 earnings forecast increased to $1.35 billion.

9
MOLINE, Illinois (August 19, 2016) — Net income attributable to
Deere & Company was $488.8 million, or $1.55 per share, for the third quarter
ended July 31, compared with $511.6 million, or $1.53 per share, for the same
period last year.

For the first nine months of the year, net income attributable to
Deere & Company was $1.239 billion, or $3.91 per share, compared with
$1.589 billion, or $4.67 per share, last year.

Worldwide net sales and revenues decreased 11 percent, to $6.724 billion, for
the third quarter and declined 9 percent, to $20.124 billion, for nine months.
Net sales of the equipment operations were $5.861 billion for the quarter and
$17.737 billion for the first nine months, compared with $6.840 billion and
$19.843 billion for the periods last year.

"John Deere's performance in the third quarter reflected the continuing impact
of the global farm recession as well as difficult conditions in construction
equipment markets," said Samuel R. Allen, chairman and chief executive
officer. "All of Deere's businesses remained profitable with the Agriculture &
Turf division reporting higher operating profit than last year. As in past
quarters, our results benefited from the sound execution of our operating
plans, the impact of a broad product portfolio, and our success keeping a tight
rein on costs and assets."

Summary of Operations
Net sales of the worldwide equipment operations declined 14 percent for the
quarter and 11 percent for the first nine months compared with the same
periods a year ago. Sales included price realization of 2 percent for the quarter

and year to date. Additionally, sales included an unfavorable currency-

translation effect of 2 percent for both the quarter and nine months. Equipment
net sales in the United States and Canada decreased 16 percent for the
quarter and 13 percent year to date. Outside the U.S. and Canada, net sales
decreased 12 percent for the quarter and 7 percent for the first nine months,
with unfavorable currency-translation effects of 4 percent and 6 percent for the
respective periods.

Deere's equipment operations reported operating profit of $625 million for the
quarter and $1.526 billion for nine months, compared with $601 million and

10
$1.842 billion last year. The improvement for the quarter was primarily driven
by price realization, lower production costs and a decrease in selling,
administrative and general expenses, partially offset by reduced shipment
volumes and the unfavorable effects of foreign-currency exchange. The year-
to-date decline was mostly due to lower shipment volumes, unfavorable
effects of foreign-currency exchange and a less favorable product mix.
Partially offsetting these factors for the year-to-date period were price
realization, lower production costs and decreased selling, administrative and
general expenses. Both periods benefited from a gain on the sale of a partial
interest in the unconsolidated affiliate SiteOne Landscape Supply, LLC.

Net income of the company's equipment operations was $353 million for the
third quarter and $873 million for the first nine months, compared with $344
million and $1.109 billion for the corresponding periods of 2015.

Financial services reported net income attributable to Deere & Company of

$125.9 million for the quarter and $357.9 million for nine months compared
with $153.4 million and $480.0 million last year. Lower results for the quarter
were primarily due to less-favorable financing spreads, a higher provision for
credit losses and higher losses on lease residual values. The year-to-date
decline was largely a result of higher losses on lease residual values, less-
favorable financing spreads and a higher provision for credit losses.
Additionally, prior year-to-date results benefited from a gain on the sale of the
crop insurance business.

John Deere India Factories

The five John Deere factories that are in India are world class manufacturing
facilities that operate with a strong commitment to security and safety
standards for employees.

Amongst these, John Deere Pune Works is the first manufacturing facility for
John Deere in India. This facility was established at Sanaswadi, near Pune in
Maharashtra, in 1999 as a green field project. The factory was developed
under a 50:50 joint venture with Larsen & Toubro Limited, an engineering
company of repute from India. This state of the art tractor manufacturing plant

11
for 5000 series John Deere tractors was developed with a vision to expand its
global presence in agriculture equipment. These tractors were introduced in
India beginning in early 2000. In 2005, John Deere acquired nearly all the
remaining shares in this joint venture. Currently this facility manufactures 5000
series tractors ranging from 35 hp up until 75 hp capacities for both domestic
as well as export market.

The Pune Works facility has been winning awards for exporting excellence for
the last 12 years from the Engineering Export Promotion Council.

Spread over 112 acres, this facility is a great example of an integrated

enterprise. It houses 3 manufacturing units, namely the Engine, Transmission
and Vehicle factories. In addition to this it also has an in-house PV&V lab. The
manufacturing units deploy world class Deere Production Systems and use
the latest technology and thinking to produce quality products with superior
features.

Transmission Factory

The Transmission factory is a center of excellence for 5000 & 4000 series
transmissions delivering a range of 35 HP to 75 HP transmissions across
multiple platforms. Advanced CNC equipment and robust assembly processes
ensure efficient production of high quality transmissions. This factory has
produced more than 400k transmissions so far and continues to support
John Deere plants at PW, Augusta, China, Brazil and Mexico.

Vehicle Assembly
The Vehicle Assembly line is an outstanding example of complex
manufacturing as it manufactures more than 200 product variants on one
single line. It has a state of the art paint facility featuring the latest in modern
equipment and infrastructure in the form of various DC tools, automatically
guided vehicles, robotic painting and much more.

Engine Factory
The engine assembly line is designed to produce one of the world's highly fuel
efficient and powerful engines. Each station is ergonomically designed with
built-in features to ensure adherence to exacting quality standards. The
engines are transported during assembly on an overhead conveyor.

A leak test is conducted on a fully-assembled engine at the sub-assembly

stage to ensure a 100% leak-proof engine. Pre-operation and post-operation

12
online quality checks are also carried out to ensure quality. Critical joints are
fastened using electric multi spindle machines capable of torque, yield and
angle control.

Cleanliness of components is continuously maintained using special purpose

washing machines both online as well as offline. Finally, every engine is tested
for performance at the company's Engine Test Cells which are one of the most
modern in the industry.

Highly sophisticated and well-equipped Metrology and Metallurgy laboratories

support the entire manufacturing operation.

IT at the Workplace
A high level of computerization underlines the operations at John Deere India.
The company is equipped with state-of- the-art computer and communication
facilities, giving it the interconnectivity and interactivity imperative in today's
increasingly competitive market. The company has implemented SAP systems
for sales and distribution as well as integration of manufacturing processes.
Area offices, dealers, depots and C & F agents are networked to enhance
efficiency and customer service.

Training is also provided periodically to employees as well as dealers to

upgrade their skills and better their performance.

SCOPE

Agricultural implements business has huge scope in India: John

Deere
India is a big market for tractors which are in the 35 - 75 hp
band and given the average land holding size in India,
industry experts feel that it is unlikely to change anytime
soon. However, what will change is the technology and
solutions to make the tractors in this segment more
productive

In a market like India, where higher HP tractors are not too popular, John
Deere feels that there is a lot of opportunities in the implements business itself
in the smaller to mid HP segments.

India is a big market for tractors which are in the 35 - 75 hp band and given
the average land holding size in India, industry experts feel that it is unlikely to
change anytime soon. However, what will change is the technology and
solutions to make the tractors in this segment more productive.

"One such solution to make tractors more productive is addition of implements

which is now increasingly happening in India, said Mukul Varshney, vice
president, public affairs, John Deere. "The market for implements will grow
exponentially in India as even OEMs are now planning to tap into the
segment."

Indian implements industry, Varshney said, is still largely unorganized, which

to a huge extent is impacting the efficiency of the tractors. "Implement
manufacturing is highly dominated by

unorganized players here in India. There designs are not very

efficient in the fields which hamper not only the productivity per tractor but also
waste a lot of fuel in the process"

He informed that germination level in India is only around 70-75 percent which
is far lower than 85 - 95 percent seen in several other countries. "One of the
ways to improve this is use well designed implements and now tractor OEMs

23
are looking at the business of implements and are now partnering with third
party with better precision."

Nick Anderson
"My favorite part about the Part-Time Student Program was having the opportunity
to learn about IT in parallel with my math and computer science classes. If my
exposure to IT was limited to my classes at school, I don't think I would have gone
into the field."

Taylor Lubben
"I love that my job is full of new experiences each day. My manager constantly finds
new projects for me that emphasize my field of study and pertain to my interests."

Customer satisfaction

John Deere Ranks Highest in Tractor Service Satisfaction

Customer satisfaction with tractor after-sales service in India has declined, due in
large part to a drop in service quality and availability of parts, according to the J.D.
Power 2016 India Tractor Customer Service Index (CSI) Study SM released today.
The study, now in its second year, examines satisfaction among tractor owners in
India who visited an authorized service center for maintenance or repair work
between the first 12 to 24 months of ownership. Overall customer satisfaction is
based on a combined score of the service satisfaction and parts operation indices.
The service satisfaction index measures overall satisfaction across four factors (listed
in order of importance): service quality; service initiation; service handover and the
service engineer. The parts operation index captures satisfaction across five
attributes. Overall customer satisfaction is measured on a 1,000-point scale, with a
higher score indicating higher satisfaction.
Tractor owner satisfaction with after-sales service in India drops to 751 in 2016 from
774 in 2015. The overall decrease is attributed to notable declines in the service
satisfaction index for service quality -31 points) and service engineer (-24) as well as a
decline in the overall parts operation index score (-52).
“The decline in after-sales service satisfaction is of particular concern,” said Dr.
Gordon Shields, director, J.D. Power. “With the number of reported breakdown
increasing to 19% of all service customers in the study this year, it is essential that
dealers are able to support their customers with the right level of service and parts.
Results indicate that the tractor industry is struggling to provide the growing number
of tractor customers with the service support they expect.”
The study finds that fewer customers in 2016 are being supported outside of their
dealer’s service facility. Only 13% of tractor owners indicate having their tractor
repaired on-site—at the farm, workplace or in the field—in 2016, compared with
18% in 2015. Moreover, service quality remains low among these customers, with
only 85% saying that all work was completed during the engineer’s first visit.
More tractor owners in 2016 say that parts are not available compared with 2015.
Only 35% of owners in 2016 indicate that parts are typically available on the same
day, compared with 42% in 2015.
“It is essential dealers maintain a high level of parts inventory in order to avoid any
delays for their customers,” said Yukti Arora, manager at J.D. Power. “Unnecessary
delays in providing the correct parts not only irritates customers, but potentially

34
impacts negatively on their income, as well as deteriorates the overall experience
with the brand.”

Study Rankings
John Deere ranks highest in satisfaction with the after-sales service experience with a
score of 785, a 7-point improvement from 2015. Massey Ferguson (769) ranks second
and New Holland (768) ranks third among the eight brands included in the study.

KEY FINDINGS
Failing to complete work correctly on the first visit is one of the key
drivers of dissatisfaction among after-sales service customers. Overall
satisfaction among customers who require a second visit is 102 points lower
than among those who have all work completed correctly on the initial visit
(658 vs. 760, respectively).
Engagement from the service engineer during the service visit has
declined across a series of key operation standards in 2016. Study findings
show the following:
- 87% of owners indicate the service engineer was focused on them and their
needs, down from 91% in 2015.
- 85% of owners say the service engineer reviewed the work done on their
tractor, down from 89% in 2015
- 85% of owners say the service engineer provided helpful advice, down
from 89% in 2015.
Fewer owners in 2016 get their tractor back after service cleaner than
when they took it in, compared with 2015 (35% vs. 41%, respectively).
Satisfaction among owners who received their tractor back “cleaner” than
when they took it in for service averages 793 points, which is 57 points higher
than among those who say their tractor was “about as clean” as when they
took it in for servicing.
Tractor usage requirements vary greatly across regions and states in
India, as do applications, farm types and income levels. Overall satisfaction
with the tractor after-sales service is highest among owners in the Western
region (Gujarat and Maharashtra) at 773 and lowest among those in the Easter
region (Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal) at 672.
Service satisfaction affects loyalty, as 72% of owners who are highly
satisfied (satisfaction scores of 852 or higher) say they “definitely would”
revisit their service dealer again, while only 31% of highly dissatisfied owners
(scores of 651 or lower) say the same. Additionally, highly satisfied customers
are 2 1/2 times more likely to say they “definitely would” recommend their
dealer to a

35
colleague or friend than are dissatisfied customers (74% vs. 29%, respectively).
The 2016 India Tractor Customer Service Index Study is based on evaluations from
3,815 tractor owners across 14 states. The study was fielded from August to January
2016 and includes owners who purchased a new tractor between August 2013 and
December 2015 from an authorized dealership.
