Immunologic Model for Pathophysiology of Asthma and Drugs used in Asthma

Action of Magnesium Sulphate

(used in severe asthma)
1. Enhance Ca2+ uptake in
sarcoplasmic reticulum
(calcium antagonist)
2. regulate enzymes AC and
ATPase (enhance beta
agonists)
3. Inhibit release of
acetylcholine release from
cholinergic nerves
4. Reduce histamine release
from mast cells
5. Functional antagonist to
bronchoconstriction
