5 Minute Bird Count

Do the Bird Survey when there is no rain and preferably only light to moderate wind. Also ideally between the hours of 9.00 am
and 3.00 pm, (bird activity is reasonably consistent), or have it at a consistent time for each survey. If you only hear the bird and
don’t see it record this as a count. (Refer www.whatbird.co.nz for bird calls) If there are too many of one species to accurately
count then approximate. Try not to count the same bird twice but if a bird disappears and then it comes back into view but you are
unsure if it is the same one, then record it as 2 sightings. Finches, sparrows etc just record as small birds. If birds such as
pheasants flee as you enter a bird counting area then include these in the count. Refer www.patumahoe.org.nz
