1、Introduction
DCS base station amplifier system is composed of two parts, one is base station
amplifier and the other is tower mounted amplifier. It can be used to amplify the
stations of single and multi carrier frequency, the directed and unidirectional stations.
Base station amplifier is the carrier frequency amplification equipment of ultra
linear and independent. It is composed of ultra linear power amplifier,
high-performance duplexer, lower-noise amplifier, electrically controlled attenuator
and corresponding monitor equipment. It cans increases the power grade of base
station, augment the cover area, and improve the cover effect. Furthermore, the tower
mounted amplifier is used to magnify the small uplink signal, reduce the noise
coefficient of base station, heighten the received sensitivity, and assure the gain
balance between uplink and downlink.
The crust of base station is the standard indoor machine cabinet. The TX signal
of BTS is amplified by ultra linear power amplifier independently, and be carried to
antenna after combined by feeder. When the cover area is extended, the small uplink
signals are carried into BTS via the amplification of tower amplifier, so as to achieve
the gain balance between uplink and downlink.

2、The predominance of technology

2.1. The base station amplifier has its own input attenuation, no need to regulate the
station power.
2.2. Support the hopping frequency and cooperation among carrier frequency.
2.3. It has independent amplification, convenient capacity expansion and unlimited
quantity of carrier frequency.
2.4. It bears the bypass function. The equipment failure can not influence the nature
work of base station.
2.5. It has particular function of native and remote monitoring. The base station and
power amplifier are monitored centralized.

Tower mounted amplifier is connected with tower top and received antenna, be
used to amplify the received signals. Carry the amplified signals to the base station
receiver, and feed electrical source via cable. The power amplifier of base station is equipped
in the equipment room. The power amplifier output of per carrier frequency is connected with the

power amplifier input. After amplification, every carrier frequency combines path, or feed to sending

antenna via cable. The electrical source of base station amplifier is the standard -48V direct current.

6. Equipment installation

6.1 The environment condition of equipment room

1. The temperature range in equipment room: 5℃~40℃

2. The relative humidity range in equipment room: 10%~90%
3. The temperature gradient in equipment room: less than ±15℃
4. The equipment room floor bearing: more than 300kg/m2
5. The equipment room must as clean as a whistle, aeration, dryness on the floor
and mostly has the air controller.

6.2 Machine cabinet installation

6.2.1 Interval
☆ The interval between machine cabinet back and wall:>1m;
☆ The laterals of machine cabinet can abut on the base station equipment or the
wall;
☆ Every row interval of the machine cabinet:>1m。
6.2.2 Position of machine cabinet and wiring frame
☆ Make wiring swimmingly and easy
☆ Wiring frame must be 30cm higher than the top of machine cabinet.
6.2.3 Fixation
☆ In the area of prevail earthquake (or particular request of user), the top adds to
sustained angle iron.
☆ When there is special material floor(or particular request of user), the bottom can
add to grounded plastic tie plate and plastic gasket
☆ Protect of machine cabinet earthing IGB, diameter of line ≥16 mm2;
☆ The feeder needs three points grounding and arrester.
☆ The grounded wire does not bend as much as possible(the radius of
sinuosity≥7.26cm),the joint between grounded wire and iron tower should use
jointing and adding anticorrosive varnish.

- 9-
DCS BTS Technical Manual

☆ The joints between copper and iron need tightening and adding inoxidzable coating.
EGB earth line’s diameter > 70 square millimeter.
☆ The antenna must set in 45°protect area under the arrester in the normally, and as
possibly set it in 30°in fact.
☆ Arrester earth resistance < 3Ω & top tower earth resistance <5Ω.

6.3 Wiring

6.3.1 Radio-frequency line

☆ Length propriety
☆ Radian of sinuosity > 15 times of radius of feeder.
☆ 10CM round the tie-in must keep directness.
6.3.2 Power cord
☆ Power cord’s diameter > 16 square millimeter.
☆ The anode & cathode must be discriminated by color.

6.4 Constructions of sky feeder

6.4.1 Antenna
① 1M higher than the flat roof of the tower
② Space between antennas
☆ Receiving antenna diversity in the same sub district:>3M
☆ Level space between the omni antenna:>4M
☆ Level space between the directive aerial:>2.5M
☆ Uprightness space between the each flat antennas:>1M
③ Dispatcher antenna have not to set inversion except specialized.
④ Under the protect square of arrester.
⑤ Keep parallelism of antennas in the same fan
6.4.2 Feeders
☆ Earthing by three points
☆ Beware stave when up-pull.
☆ Thrums water-proof, and the thrum head over heels when cut to let the rubber and
- 10-

copper filings drop in the core.

☆ The swerves limit in three, and protect by rubber band when osculate to hard
materials.
☆ The earthing point must higher than earth line to prevent the water flow
backwards.

6.5steps of installation

6.5.1 Connections of DCS BTS & BS (magnify the downlink signals)

The each independence amplifier’s TX IN port of DCS BTS must connect to the
same carrier frequency’s TX OUT port of TCU. (Except broad band enlarge)
Connect directly between the mixed outputs and send feeders.(refer to above
scheme of installation according to the type of base station)

6.5.2 Installation of the tower mounted amplifier(magnify the uplink signals)

Firstly, fix the tower mounted amplifier near the receiving antenna. Then,
connect its “antenna port” and antenna using flexible jumper, connect its “base station port”
and feeder using flexible jumper. Lastly, make sure the contact of joints ok and airproof with

mackintosh.

6.5.3 The installation of the “feeder supply relay” of tower top amplifier
Connect the two base station ports of “feeder supply relay” to the TX1 and TX2
ports of the base station DLNB respectively. Then, connect the feeder of ‘’low-noise
plus tower top amplifier’’ to the antenna port of “feeder supply relay”, plug the power
plug of “feeder supply relay” into source bore.
6.5.3 TX OUT power confirmation of TCU
Concatenate TX OUT of base station TCU and TX IN of base station amplifier using

dynamometer. Then start the base station and read real power of TX (using sub value to confirm

the fixed attenuation).

6.6Open the base station amplifier

Dial all switches of amplifier to “ON” position (max attenuation). Connect the
dynamometer to TX output. Then start base station and amplifier, adjust the amplifier plus and

- 11-

base station power so as to get the needed value of amplifier power.

Running the corresponding test and adjust amplifier to meet request of cover

And the balance between uplink and downlink.

6.7Clean the jobsite

7、Maintain the system

7.1 basic maintenance

☆ Inspect the equipment room regularly, and advert the equipment room
temperature especially.
☆ Examine the message on Liquid Crystal Display of amplifier.

7.2 Estimation and handling of the fault

Base station amplifier has no alarm while use normally. The alarm message will
be on the Liquid Crystal Display if there is alarm.
— Too high temperature alarm: examine and change the radiator fan.
— Stationary wave alarm: examine sky feeder and joint of bridle wire, screw down and
airproof.
— Too large power alarm: adjust plus and input power to get the needed output
value.
— No power alarm: Amplifier will bypass resume automatically. Need to change power
amplifier.
