II. What is Stress?

Stress is a conscious or unconscious psychological feeling or physical situation which

comes as a result of physical or/and mental 'positive or negative pressure' to overwhelm adaptive
capacities .It is a psychological process initiated by events that threaten, harm or challenge an
organism or that exceed available coping recourses and it is characterized by psychological
responses that are directed towards adaptation. It is wear and tear on the body in response to
stressful agents. Hans Selye called such agents stressors and said they could be physical,
physiological, psychological or socio cultural. And stress is not an anxiety disorder and it is not a
normative concept

III .Types of Stress

A. Circumstantial Stress

This type of Stress which everyone must deal with from time to time, such as
meeting, deadline at work, or taking an examination. In general, we benefit from this
type of stress because it generates enthusiasm, excitement and pressures which help us
grow and become more active. Most of the time you can control circumstantial stress. If
you carry a balanced routine, you can lead a healthy life while dealing with this type of
stress.

B. Excessive Stress

We suffer from this type of stress when dealing with constant and excessive
tension. It is important to put limits on external pressures so that your mental and
physical state do not become affected. Natural holistic Remedies can be particularly
helpful in relieving and preventing stress. However, you should keep in mind that
natural remedies only work when accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.
V. Stress Management for Teachers

A .Dress to suit your body shape and colouring

This will make you appear more organized, professional and healthy,
regardless of the style that you will choose. This will make you more confident.

B .Tend towards moderation

Avoid extreme styles and your classic appearance will last a lifetime. This also
overcomes problems such as appearing dated, sexually provocative, frumpy or
eccentric.

C .Invest in quality

This will make your appearance save you money and time, and give you more
enjoyment. This will also make yourself a well organized person. Thus, stress will be
lesser.
VI. Tips to control Stress

A. Get Organized

One of the most common causes of stress is being disorganized at work or at

home. Here are some tips to get organized:

Keep a diary. Write lists of tasks to accomplish prioritise them and schedule
when you complete them.

Writing down objectives, duties and activities helps to make them more
tangible and doable . Having a schedule also helps you provide the facts when
your boss asks you to perform an overwhelming tasks. They may have no idea
that you are overwhelmed with your work and the additional responsibilities
cannot be accomplished unless something else goes. Again, prioritizing tasks
helps you to minimize the stressful situations.

B. Make a list and Prioritise

So many projects, so little time . To beat stress, you have to learn and
prioritise. At the start of each day, pick the single most important task to
complete, and then finish it. If you are a person who makes to do list, never write
one with more than five items. That way, you are more likely to get all things
done and you will feel a greater sense of accomplishment and control. Then you
can go ahead and make a second five item test list. While you are it, make a list of
things that you can delegate to co-workers and family members.

C .Learn to say “no” when Appropriate

Sometimes you have to learn to draw the line. Stressed out people often cannot

Assert themselves. Instead of saying ‘I don’t want to do this’ , they do it all by

Themselves. Then they have even more to do.

D .Ventilation

People who keep things for themselves without sharing with their friends or
loved ones carry a considerable and unnecessary burden. Share your problems and
concern with others. Develop a support system relatives, colleagues or friends to talk
when you are upset or worried. When you are frustrated write it down. After you have
vent the frustration, destroy writing so that it is forgotten. Re-reading the journal will
reawaken the frustration and anger. So, do not keep it .

Seek social support. Studies have shown that close, positive relationships with
others facilitate good health and morale. One reason for this is that support from
family and friends serves as a buffer cushion the impact of stressful events. Talking
out problems and expressing tensions can be incredibly helpful.

E . Laughter Therapy

Humour is a wonderful stress reducer and antidote to upsets. It is clinically

proven to be effective in combating stress, although the exact mechanism is unknown.
Experts says a good laugh relaxes tense muscles, speeds more oxygen into your
system and lowers your blood pressure. So time into your favorite sitcom on
television. Read a funny book. Call a friend and chuckle for a few minutes. It even
helps to force a laugh once in a while. You will find your stress melting away almost
instantly.

Laughter Therapy is turning out to be the most successful stress buster. Laughter
stimulates the immune system, off-setting the immune-suppresive effects of stress.
IV. Limiting Stress

A .Use Refusal Skills.

Determine whether you have time for a new activity before agreeing to take it on . If
the new activity will add to your stress, use refusal skills to say no.

B . Plan Ahead.

Manage your time wisely. So that you will not rush the important things that you
need to do.

C .Think Positively

We cant control everything in our lives, but we can control how we respond to
events. A positive outlook limits stress by shifting our your perception and the way
to react to a stressor. For example, try viewing a typical stressor, like a job
interview, as a learning opportunity instead of a threat. This will make our mind
clear and away from stress we will not able to think it. As a result, we can perform
better.
