The Lost People The Jotter, 9-18-2010 “When did they come, and where did they go?

”* The pale ghosts of close-by bodies Half-remembered slaps on the back Slurred conversations tinged with dark rum Lives half-known and half-lived for all I know. Into and out of my life they came and went. And now, looking out my window, Through the wire mesh that lets in the curved air But not the bugs, not the yellowing leaves falling from the pallid sky, Not the wandering walker on the opposite side of the one-way street. Looking through that blur of losing movement at the Edge of memory and moment I wonder. When did it fall apart?

* Quote from Beardfish, “Into the Night”, on Sleeping In Traffic part II
