NBI Changes
This section records the history of NBI changes made since ProVision 6.1.1.
NBI Function Defect / Change Description
Enhance
Changes in 6.1.1:
Performance Defect New 5-min and 15-min performance NBI files were
sometimes generated more frequently than expected.
Performance Defect MegaStar performance data was not written to the
performance NBI.
Performance Defect Eclipse IDU performance data was not saved correctly.
Performance Defect For the performance NBI Single File option, sometimes only
one entry would be generated for Eclipse, XP4 and Altium
devices.
Changes in 6.2.1:
Configuration Issue The far end radio IP address was not always populated in
the cross-connect section.
Changes in 6.2.2:
Events Enhance Added the option to send the probable cause description in
the event NBI SNMP trap based interface.
Configuration Defect Fixed minor errors that occurred with comments fields when
parsing the NBI trap forwarding MIB.
Changes in 6.3.1:
Performance Enhance Improved performance NBI output file heading for remote
managed XP4s.
Performance Defect Too many files for “per device type”; performance data
problem occurred with Constellation, Velox, Altium and TNet.
Events Enhance Added new option to provide simple SNMPv1 format traps to simplify
rd
integration with 3 party SNMP Manager (e.g. SNMPc).
Changes in 6.4.1:
Event Enhance Resynchronization destination improvement:
When processing a resync request, ProVision uses the
pvSBSourceIPAddress object to determine the destination
for the event traps. This provides the ability for Northbound
Manager A to send a resync request on behalf of Northbound
Manager B.
SNMP Defect NBI Traps and Configuration Profiles date/time/time zone
value had become corrupt: this is fixed.
Changes in 6.4.3:
SNMP Defect Enabling SNMP Event NBI traps disabled SNMP managed
devices.
Topology Defect Control characters in topology names caused topology
exports to fail: this is fixed.
Changes in 6.5.1:
Event Enhance SNMP southbound inform traps now provide
acknowledgement.
Changes in 6.5.2:
Event Defect Altium daily NBI RSSIa had been missing; this is fixed.
Changes in 6.5.3
MTOSI Enhancement Added Eclipse auto-provisioning via the MTOSI NBI. This has
been verified with the INU, RAC 50, and RAC 6X Eclipse
devices.
Changes in 6.5.4
MTOSI Defect API documentation link was missing from main pvweb page;
this is fixed.
MTOSI Enhance All XML examples are valid.
MTOSI Defect Documentation now describes which resources are valid for
CommonResourceProvisioning.
MTOSI Defect Null pointer exception while writing NBI performance fixed.
MTOSI Defect Exceptions for circuits have been expanded.
MTOSI Defect Caching connectable table issue fixed.
MTOSI Defect Issue fixed with allowing IP_Address or IP Address to be
passed to create ME.
MTOSI Defect Issue fixed with NullPointer when running 250 threads on
createME.
MTOSI Enhance Added containers to createManagedElement.
MTOSI Enhance createManagedElement now allows discovery of Eclipse
class.
MTOSI Enhance Now has configured DAC-GE Link Status Propagation (LLF)
MTOSI Enhance Circuit table commit time is now consistent and does a circuit
collection.
MTOSI Enhance MTOSI NBI has been added to the installer.
MTOSI Defect MTOSI installer wasn’t installing in correct directory on 64-bit
machine
Known Issues
The following table lists known issues in this release. All issues have a severity level of Medium
or less. Workarounds and GCAS numbers are noted if available.
ProVision Issues
Area Issue
Capacity Reports The Capacity Report doesn't show OC3 data-rate. The data rate is
presented as STM-1 instead of OC3.
Circuits Circuit Provisioning is slow for long circuits. The plan is to investigate
speeding up the write process by writing to multiple nodes in parallel.
Data Collection Daily performance collection timestamp is GMT midnight not local
midnight resulting in timestamp inaccuracy.
NBI GCAS 36529: For the NBI Config file, an update event is generated
daily. This informational event should only be generated when a change
is detected since last reading the configuration file.
Workaround: Create a text filter to filter out these events.
Performance Data ProVision and Portal performance data time stamps can differ by up to 1
day due to the way ProVision calculates performance sample
timestamps. ProVision is not correctly taking account of the time zone
when calculating the timestamp for the performance sample.
ProVision Client If network communications is lost between Server and Client, the Client
shuts down. This problem also occurs where a Client session is running
on the Server and the Ethernet cable is unplugged from the Server.
Workaround: Keeping the Server plugged into an Ethernet switch
prevents a Client session on the Server from shutting down. There is no
ability to run the Client on a separate machine without a connection to
the Server.
ProVision Server The Clients must be connected to the Solaris Server HME0 Ethernet
(Solaris) adaptor, or else the Clients will be unable to connect to the Server.
Reports When generating Custom Reports on a large network containing
thousands of devices, the report takes a long time to render and during
this time the Client is unresponsive.
Workaround: Run the report on smaller numbers of devices.
Reports Network Health Report timestamps are not aligned on midnight
boundaries, resulting in date/time confusion.
Supported Systems
Compatibility
8X Switch 2.0
Note: The RSL graph, 15-min statistics, and daily statistics will not be shown correctly in XPWeb
and TNet Web if Java 1.6 plug-ins not installed. Java 1.6 for Windows can be downloaded and
installed from http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Java Supported
ProVision incorporates Java 2, Standard Edition (J2SE), version 1.6.0, update 16. This is for
Windows and Solaris 9 and 10 installations. It is also referred to as “6.0” by Sun Mircosystems.
Note that, if you are running this on a Solaris server, you need to ensure that you are upgraded
to Java version 1.6.0.16, provided on the ProVision DVD.
Solaris 10, 64 bit Yes Not Also requires 64 bit support (default
version supported install setting).
Depending on the hardware configuration, a single ProVision server can support a maximum
SLV of 6,000.
Please refer to the SUN hardware and Windows hardware tables below to see how the node
loading value relates to the hardware specifications.
The number of node licenses required to manage a network is based on the number of managed
network elements where typically 1 node license = 1 SNMP / IP address deployed into the
ProVision server database.
The exceptions to this rule are:
TRuepoint 6500 where each MSTU provides one radio channel and a fully loaded link
can support up to 8 radio channels – therefore 8 node licenses per terminal might be
required.
MegaStar where each SPU provides 3 radio channels therefore the node license per
terminal is 2 instead of 1.
XP4 remote managed links where just 1 NMI card and IP address is used to manage
both ends of an XP4 link.
Notes:
• When additional features are added to the ProVision product, the RAM requirements may
increase for the node counts specified above.
• It is recommended that client sessions are not executed on large server deployments.
Total Server Minimum Windows WAN Client Minimum Windows WAN Client
Loading Value Server specification specification
Up to 6,000 1 – 3 client sessions: 1 GHz processor
3 GHz processor 512 MB RAM
Base RAM requirements for Ethernet LAN card
Windows or Citrix + 512 MB per PV 19” monitor
Client session Min. display resolution 1024 x 768
Ethernet LAN card 32-bit color
4 – 6 client sessions:
Dual 3 GHz processors
Base RAM requirements for
Windows or Citrix + 512 MB per PV
Client session
Ethernet LAN card
7 – 15 client sessions:
Quad core Intel Xeon processor
OR multiple processor equivalent
Base RAM requirements for
Windows or Citrix + 512 MB per PV
Client session
Ethernet LAN card
It is probable that the latency specification may be exceeded when a ProVision LAN client is
used remotely (e.g., VPN or WAN connection). When this is the case, a ProVision WAN client
solution must be used.
Symptoms of slow latency are:
Slow start-up.
Slow object deployment.
Slow object detention times.
Client intermittently closing.
Client freezing with grey screen.
