FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Kia ora koutou

Mr Pope
The Board of Trustees, staff and students wish to congratulate our
Deputy Principal, Mr Kevin Pope. Kevin is receiving the Doctor of
Education degree (EdD) from Auckland University during the next
holiday period. This is a major personal accomplishment and Kevin
will join a small group of teachers in New Zealand with this very high
academic qualification.

Tauranga NZAIMS Sports
Thank you for the excellent support from many parents, family
members and ex-students. The assistance with transport, team
organisation, coaching, supervision, umpiring etc was fantastic. Our
time in Tauranga was very busy and the 90+ sportspersons
represented their school and district superbly. Over 3500 Y7 & 8
students from all over New Zealand participated across 14 different
sporting codes. This is the largest school sports tournament in New
Zealand. The school makes a special mention of Mrs Judy Fowlie.
Judy, who works in the school administration team, organises our
school’s participation in the tournament. She is also the manager of
the boys’ hockey team. Judy works on the organisation for at least six
months before the tournament and the success each year is in great
part due to her work. Thanks everyone.

PTA
The PTA is organizing a raffle as a fundraiser. The raffle will happen
mid-way through next term. A flyer is with this newsletter and asks
for a grocery item donation from all families. There is a class
competition in place to see which class can collect the greatest
number of grocery items. For your calendar, the next PTA meeting is
on Monday 11 October, 7.00 pm in the staffroom.

Year 6 students Open Evening
Approximately 300 Year 6 students from Franklin schools visited the
Intermediate over two evenings this week. These students will be the
Year 7’s of 2011. The open evenings were a great success and I thank
all staff and current students for their input, helpfulness and
friendliness towards our visitors.

Hara Mura – Japan
We farewell the 18 Intermediate and PHS students going to Japan.
They are off later this evening and return mid way through the
holidays. The group travel to Hiroshima, Kyoto and Tokyo for a tourist
experience and spend a week with our sister school in Hara Mura for a
cultural exchange week.

The next trip will be in 2012. Current Y7 students and next year’s
Year 7 students will be eligible for the trip and if you would like more
information, please email me, g_sweeney@pukekoheint.school.nz or
give me a ring, 238 6568, ext 801.

School buildings for Sale by Tender
Early next term, the school will be advertising for sale by tender, the
current dental clinic and the caretakers’ garages. Both buildings are
on the Edinburgh St side of the school. It is anticipated that the sale
and removal will have been completed by November. If you are
interested in receiving more information about one or both of the
buildings, please contact Kirstin Grant in the school office and she will
forward the information when we have finalised it. Kirstin can be
contacted at k_grant@pukekoheint.school.nz

SICK CHILDREN
There are still a number of winter illnesses around. If your child is unwell,
please have them stay home and keep them at home until they are
completely recovered. Some children are returning to school before they
have fully recovered from an illness. This does not help their recovery and
they risk passing on cold/flu etc to other students and staff. If your child is
absent, please contact the school on 238 6568 option 1 to leave an
explanation. You are also able to email the school through our website
www.pukekoheint.school.nz.
