1. System requirements

Learning Essentials for Microsoft Office requires the following minimum system c
onfiguration:
* Personal computer with a 600-megahertz (MHz) or faster processor.
* 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM or more recommended.
* Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later, Windows XP SP2 or
later
* Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher-resolution monitor
* Macromedia Flash 7.0 or later
* Microsoft Office 2007,Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office XP, Word 2007,
Word 2003, Word 2002, Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel 2002, PowerPoint 2007, Power
Point 2003, or PowerPoint 2002
* Microsoft InfoPath SP1 or later is required for some features of the Content
Development Kit (CDK)
* Available hard disk space:
295 MB if installing only the program files
320 MB if installing Learning Essentials for Students

2. Installation and configuration issues

Administrator privileges are required to install Learning Essentials
To install Learning Essentials or push registry key updates on a client computer
, administrator privileges are required. If Setup is run without administrator p
rivileges, Setup will fail silently when attempting to install Microsoft .NET Fr
amework 2.0 and an error will be logged in the system log on the client computer

Cancelling Setup may leave earlier versions of Learning Essentials unusable
If you cancel Setup before it is complete, earlier versions of Learning Essentia
ls may be unusable. If this happens, uninstall the earlier version of Learning E
ssentials. You can then reinstall the earlier version or you can run Setup again
to install this version.

Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 is required for Learning Essentials tutorials
Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 or later is required to use the Learning Essentials
tutorials. If Flash is not installed on client computers, users will receive an
error message when they attempt to access some features.
To download the latest free version of the Macromedia Flash Player, go to http:/
/www.adobe.com/downloads/.

Operating system language should match language of CDK
The language of the operating system should match the language version of the CD
K you are installing. If they do not match then you will see a combination of E
nglish and the language used for the CDK.

Windows Script Host must be enabled when installing the CDK
When installing the CDK component during Setup, you must have Windows Script Hos
t enabled. It can be disabled again when Setup is complete.

Unable to copy all files to SharePoint document library
SharePoint servers can block certain file types, such as .exe or .chm files, fro
m being uploaded. When you copy Learning Essentials files to a SharePoint docume
nt library, you will get an error if the SharePoint server blocks these file typ
es. To change the settings for blocked file types, open SharePoint Central Admin
istration and under Security Configuration, click "Manage blocked file types". D
elete the file extensions .exe and .chm from the list.

Unable to install a content package created with an earlier version of the CDK
This version of Learning Essentials requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, which
is automatically installed during Setup. However, content packages created with
an earlier version of the CDK require Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. If you get
an error message when installing these content packages, go to http://www.micros
oft.com/downloads to download and install the following redistributable packages
:
* Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
* Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
Note: Multiple versions of the .NET Framework can be installed on a computer.

Unable to open User Centre after installing CDK
Do not install an earlier version of the CDK after installing this version of Le
arning Essentials. To install the current version of the CDK, run Setup and use
the Modify option to add the CDK component.

Links to add-in content are broken
If add-in content is installed on a client computer, and you change the content
location, User Centre links for the add-in content may break. To fix this, unins
tall the add-in content from the original location and install it in the new con
tent location. If you are sharing content in a central location, open the User C
entre file in administration mode to incorporate the add-in content, and then pu
sh a new User Centre file to client computers.

Microsoft Office prompts for spelling & grammar tools for foreign languages
If you open Learning Essentials templates that include language tools for German
, French, or Spanish, you may be prompted to install the Microsoft Office Proofi
ng Tools for the language. These tools may be available on your Microsoft Office
installation disc. If the proofing tools are not installed, some features, such
as the spelling check, may not be available.

Previewing User Centre file in CDK closes Learning Essentials User Centre
If you open a User Centre file in administration mode, be sure to save any chang
es before using the Preview feature in the CDK User Centre form. When you use th
e Preview feature, the User Centre file you have open is closed without warning.

Learning Essentials menus and toolbars do not display in Office XP
If you do not see the Learning Essentials menus and toolbars in Word, Excel, or
PowerPoint, security settings in the Office XP program may be set too high.
To modify the security settings for Office XP
1. Start the Office program.
2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.
3. On the Security Level tab, select Medium.
4. Click OK.
Note: You need to modify the security settings separately for each Office progra
m.

Security warning for AddinShim.dll is displayed
If you receive a "Security Warning "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Learning Essentia
ls\1.0\AddinShim.dll" contains macros" error, you need to modify the list of tru
sted publishers. This problem will occur when you start an Office XP program.
To modify the list of trusted publishers for Office XP
1. Start the Office program.
2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.
3. On the Trusted Sources tab, check the Trust all installed add-ins and templat
es check box.
4. Click OK.
Note: You need to modify the list of trusted publishers separately for each Offi
ce program.

Maths Symbols not displaying in Office 2003 or Office XP
If Maths symbols do not display in Word or Powerpoint it may be because of the f
ont being used by the application.
To modify:
1. Highlight the symbol text that is not displaying.
2. In Word or Powerpoint, on the Format menu select Font.
3. Change the font to Arial.

Learning Essentials does not support Preview or Beta versions of software, such
as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, or Windows operating system. Learning Es
sentials supports only released versions of software.

4. New Feature: HunterStone THESIS SCORM Tools for Microsoft Office
========================================================================

HunterStone THESIS is a set of tools that enables users to create SCORM-conforma
nt e-learning content using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. It is now inc
luded with Learning Essentials for Teachers. With HunterStone THESIS, you simply
create your content in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, then save the content in SCO
RM-conformant format. You can also import SCORM-conformant content into the prog
ram in which it was originally created.
