Besides his other interests, Walt attended McKinley High School in Chicago.
Walt Disney tried to join the army but he was too young. So, he lied to the Red Cross
about his age and they sent him overseas where he drove an ambulance, which he had
covered in cartoon characters.
His talents were first used in a silent cartoon entitled Plane Crazy
Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in Steamboat Willie, the world's first
synchronized sound cartoon, which premiered at the Colony Theatre in New York
Disney was an innovator- i.e., his drive to perfect the art of animation was endless.
Walt got his 1st academy awards in 1932 for the production entitled Flowers and Trees.
In 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the 1st full-length animated musical
feature was premiered.. The film was produced at the cost of $1,499,000 during the
depths of the Depression
During the next 5 years, Disney Studios completed other full-length animated classics
such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, & Bambi.
Walt wanted diversification. In the late 1940s, Disney began sketching ideas for a Disney
theme park
