Wind Power Generation: How it works and its benefits

1.1 Background

Wind energy is a sort of sun powered vitality. Winds are caused by the uneven warming

of the climate by the sun, the inconsistencies of the world's surface, and earth's rotation. It is used

easily because it is cost effective, free, non-polluting and a kind of renewable source . This

breeze movement can be utilized to generate electricity.

Wind power generation is a kind of source which converts the wind into electrical energy

to power communities like homes, businesses, hospitals, churches, schools and other

establishments. It comprises wind turbines wherein the wind turns the blades, which turns a

shaft, connects to a generator and produces electricity. A wind farm is a group of wind turbines

in the same location utilized for the creation of electricity. A large wind farm may consist of

several hundred individual wind turbines and it covers a very large area.

One example of place generated by wind is located at Barangay Halayhayin Pililla,

Rizal. It is called Pililla Wind Farm which comprises of 27 wind turbine generators grouped into

three clusters with capacity of 54 megawatts. It can create a 150 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of power

annually and can distribute electricity for about 66,000 families continously. It was operated by

Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corporation (APHC).

With enough resources, it is rarely possible for a windmill to have enough resources to

fullfill the needs of its client/s. What is delivered now is only a portion/part of what its client
needs. Enough resources and enough money is the best way to provide less electricity cost with

the other unusual challenges like the quality of the material, the weather where windmill is, the

wind flunctuates, threat to wildlife like birds and noise pollution.

1.2 Purpose

The current study aim is to know the findings of what it may do to one state and to

establish factor that this wind conservation is better and environmentally friendly. The objective

of this study is to determine how generation of power from wind is done. The researchers also

want to know the advantage and disadvantage of wind power generation and introduce solution

for the problems regarding the lack of power supply in some areas. Also, part of the research

study is to know more the role and responsibility of what being an engineer can do in this

situations. It would be there for beneficial to:

Residents in Pililla Rizal- for them to be aware with the importance of wind

generation and to promote local tourism.

Engineers- to further investigate the underlying factors contributing to the

installation of wind turbine and create possible solution for the existing problem

in the wind farm.

Environment-Wind is a renewable energy and it is a great help to reduce

greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel depletion.
