3: The two element truss as shown in figure is subjected to


external loading as shown. Using the same node and element
numbering as in figure, determine the displacement component of
node 3, the reaction force components at nodes 1 and 2, and the
element displacements, stresses and forces. The elements have
modulus of elasticity E1=E2=107 lb/in2 and cross-sectional areas
A1=A2= 1.5 in2.

nodal displacements, the reaction forces at nodes 1 and 5, and the force in each spring. 10

8: For the spring assembly shown here, determine the force F 3 required to displace node 2 by an amount 0.75 in. to the right. Also
compute the displacement of node 3. 10
