A Great Indonesia from Livestock

Talking about farming means talking about life. Our President Ir. Sukarno
once said Food is a matter of death-life of a nation. If the people's food needs are
not met then the "catastrophe" will happen, therefore it needs a massive, radical,
and revolutionary effort. The fact In the midst of advanced technology and
information (era of globalization), it turns out that in this country are still found
cases of malnutrition and deaths of citizens due to hunger., such it happened a
while ago that hit the territory of Papua
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the poor in Indonesia until
March 2007 reached 27.77 million people (10.64 percent). Of these,
approximately 68.55 percent are rural inhabitants. Though Indonesia is a country
that has a diverse range of natural wealth. Natural wealth is not only found in the
oil and gas natural resources such as petroleum and mining materials, but also
non-oil natural resources such as the availability of adequate agricultural and
livestock.
Seeing these problems, the livestock agribusiness sector is one sector that
has a pretty strategic role. Especially in overcoming the national development
crisis. Livestock agribusiness has a significant role in the formation of Gross
Domestic Product (GDP), food security, job creation, poverty reduction, an
increase in national income and income earning through export activities.
Therefore it is not surprising that agribusiness farms are expected as a new growth
sector, both in agriculture and in the national economy.
Livestock agribusiness also has a role as a source of animal protein so that
it can contribute in creating quality human resources (HR). Qualified human
resources are the decisive factor in increasing the productivity and
competitiveness of the Indonesian nation in the global arena.
When viewed from the consumption needs of various developing countries
or developed countries in the world. Such as food consumption of animal protein
of meat, milk, and eggs. Indonesian people only reach 5.3-10.8 kg / kap / year.
This is very far away when compared with the people of England, Brazil and
some other developed European countries. The consumption of developed
countries reached 100kg / kap / year, or 10 times the consumption of milk and
meat compared to the people of Indonesia. Japanese people consume eggs five
times the consumption of Indonesian society so that Indonesia is also still difficult
to catch up science and technology from Japan.
Food Independence is the ability of the State and the nation to produce
diverse food from within the country that can guarantee the fulfillment of
adequate food needs to the level of a person by utilizing the potential of natural
resources, human, social, economic, and local wisdom in dignity.
This is a challenge for various elements of the community whether it is
farmers, stakeholders, academics, observers, students, employers and various
relevant agencies to support each other and help its role in terms of realizing and
the provision of national food self-sufficiency of the world must be available in
terms of provision of protein animal.
