Marie called the meeting to order at 9:05am.

Special called Meeting February 26th. Dr. Imogene Mixson made a motion to approve the
special meeting minutes and Jewnita Clark seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed.

Minutes from February. Imogene moved to have the February minutes approved and Beverly
Raley seconded. All were in favor and the motion passed.

Circulation/Financial Reports. Statistics for February are poor. However, attendance is good
and our many patrons are using our new computers. Although stocks are fluctuating, Vanguard
is up a little this month.

Old Business.
A. Library Update. Although it’s early in the year, we are doing fine.
B. Amazon Sales. We are doing fairly well. We have sold four books totaling $70.
C. Dialogues on the Experience of War. Thursday, February 15th will be the last meeting
held. Mr. Earl Hyers will lead the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.
D. United Way. Sandra met with them but is not sure of the results as of yet.
E. Friends of the Library. We are doing okay, although our memberships are not as they
should be. We are not having the participation that we used to, therefore Marie has
composed a letter that she will show Chris Wisham to mail out and hopefully draw in our
members from past years.
F. Spring Break Program. Cheryl Schwartzkopf is doing a wonderful job as our
Children’s Librarian and has planned a fun-filled week. On Friday, March 30th, we will
host a meet and greet with Artist and Illustrator Brett Brooks. He is a native of Ozark
and is well known throughout the United States.
G. LSTA Grant Computers. Our new computers are up and running, being enjoyed by our
many patrons. They were purchased with our local funds. Once the bills are paid, we
will submit a request for reimbursement due to the fact that once the funds are received
we only have three days to spend it. Our old computers can be donated to a non-profit
organization. Imogene stated she noticed that we have good people serving our patrons
at the front desk.
H. Classes taught at the Library. Darnell Johnson teaches Basic Computer Skills every
Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. On Friday’s he also teaches a Tech Class beginning at 2
p.m.; and the turnout for both are good.
I. Mike Brauer and the Land. Chris has taken over for Marie regarding this issue. He
still hasn’t had any luck and Imogene thinks we need to draw some closure. Chris will
continue to work on this.
J. Deleting Books. We are still in the process of deleting material that isn’t being checked
K. City Council Meeting. A big thank you to Chris for picking up our allocation as Sandra
was unable to attend at the last minute due to plumbing issues at the Library.
New Business.
A. Wiregrass Foundation Grant. Ron Steensland has submitted our grant application. We
should know whether we are approved or not by April 15th.
B. Mary Alice Veale. Mary Alice was selected to head up the fund raising committee for
the Dothan Library. She owns an antique store in Dothan and is also the wife to (Ret.)
Dr. Veale. She was in attendance to give us some insight on putting together our Fund
Raising Committee. She called the Dothan Committee the Capitol Campaign Committee.
She suggested that our committee be comprised of sales people who are passionate about
our cause. We need to think about having one board member heading this group. We
need people who are successful and that are not afraid to ask for money and know who to
ask. Each committee member should themselves select 15 people and or businesses they
are comfortable with approaching. Not only do we need to consider people that would be
on everyone’s list to approach, but also ones that fly under the radar. She also advises
not to forget the significance of social media i.e. Youtube and Facebook. Target Dale
County on Facebook and place a 30-second video on our website. People will only read
so much, therefore flyers and sending out letters won’t be nearly as effective. Send
potential donors something personal such as specifications of the building. We should
also set a date for ground breaking. Members of the committee should have no hesitation
and must be positive with no wavering. The most effective ways to increase donor base
will be phone calls and personal contact.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Beverly and seconded by Jewnita. All were in
favor and the motion passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 a.m., and the next meeting will be held on April 11, 2018.
