ENGLISH 5103 – INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORAL PRESENTATION BASED ON RESEARCH

Task: You will be formally presenting your research findings to your classmates
using PowerPoint. Your challenge is to find the most important and interesting
information to keep your audience captivated.
o Your presentation should be about 8 minutes
o You should have visuals in some slides, pictures, graphs, statistics
o First slide
-you should introduce yourself and say why you are interested in this topic
-State your thesis
-Present subtopics and main ideas of presentation
o Body of presentation: middle slides:
-introduce subtopic, present support such as facts, statistics, expert
opinions, examples, and explanations
o Last slide: conclusion:
-restate your thesis
-show how your main ideas lead to your thesis

Marking Criteria:
You will be evaluated on how you communicate your ideas by:
-having an effective introduction
-using neutral language
-presenting facts in a convincing and demonstrative manner
-conclusion is complete and effective

You will also be evaluated on your use of language:

-oral communication: tone, speed, emphasis

-adapt your language to audience and context
-use body language ex. arm movements, eye contact, smile
