GEORGE BUSH
June 18, 2018
Dear Mr. Mayor,
I understand the City of Houston is submitting a bid to host the 2020
Democratic National Convention, and I write today in support of this
effort.
For the record, I was not in Houston 90 years ago when we hosted the
1928 Democratic Convention at Sam Houston Hall. But I most surely
was present 26 years ago in the Astrodome to accept my party's
nomination for President in my hometown. I could not have been
prouder of the job our city did then — or more recently in hosting
the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and a number of other nationally
and internationally significant events.
Our facilities and hotels are world-class, but it’s really our people -- the
spirit of our fellow Houstonians — that makes the key difference. No
one works harder; no one is friendlier or more welcoming.
Of course, Mr. Mayor, I want to be clear that | am not also endorsing
whoever might claim the DNC nomination in Houston at what Iam sure
would be the best political convention in modern history — unless it is
you! Then I would have to think about it.
Good luck with the bid, and thanks for all you do leading our wonderful
city,
All the best,
Cp De
