Cognitive Observation
-Part A
1.
a. Two examples of behaviors I’ve observed from my niece was that she seemed to
understand what is being said to her. Calm and collective being the second
example.
b. For this child I think that they are in substage 3: Secondary circular reactions.
2. Some toys/materials I saw that would assist the child in moving to the next sensorimotor
3. The teacher is fostering cognitive growth in this child by showing and playing with new
toys with the child. These toys being a battery operated drum set that lights up and plays
musical notes, and soft ball with a plastic bat, ball, and stand.
-Part B
1.
a. The behaviors of this child I’ve observed were that they seemed more hyper to go
substage were throwing a ball to someone to catch, asking someone to play soccer or grocery
3. The teacher is fostering cognitive growth in the child by engaging into playing grocery
-Part C
1. The step the child is at is step number 6: Vocal Imitation. The two year old child does
not make sounds of distress when crying. The infant makes happy responses towards
familiar vocals and giggles while smiling. The infant repeats the patterns of “ba-ba.”
The infant responds to “bzz” to happy moods. Three words in which the infant repeats
back were “ball”, “doggie”, and “nana” to the level of understanding. The infant would
point at the dog saying “doggie” thus helping them say “brown” the color fur the dog had
2. Some toys/materials that I would offer to the child to help them reach the next level
would be memory cards to help them with memory and seeing if they can remember what
card would be and if they are the same and what they say on the card.
