RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This is a qualitative study that made use of the phenomenological research

design to investigate the root causes behind academic procrastination. This design is

selected because the researchers are interested in capturing the root problems of the

students through their perspective. Phenomenological research is to describe a "lived

experience" of a phenomenon. As this is a qualitative analysis of narrative data,

methods to analyze its data must be quite different from more traditional or quantitative

methods of research. Essentially, you are focused on meaning, the meaning of the

experience and behaviour.

Research Locale

This study would be conducted at the University of Cebu-Main Senior High

School Campos which is located in J. Alcantara St. Cebu City. The University of Cebu is

an educational institution in Cebu City Philippines, founded in 1964, offering preschool,

grade school, junior & senior high school, undergraduate degrees, and post-graduate

degrees. The school VISION : to democratize quality education. Be the visionary and industry

leader. Give hope and transform lives. MISION: Serve as an active catalyst in providing efficient

and effective delivery of educational services. INSTITUTIONAL GOALS: To offer programs that

The participants of this are 10 students of senior high school department

(STEM). This study makes use of purposive sampling procedure. Purposive sampling

is a sampling technique in which researcher relies on his or her own judgment

when choosing members of population to participate in the study.

Research Instruments

This study made use of an interview questionnaire. These will be the basis for

finding out the root causes behind academic procrastination. The researchers will also

use questionnaires, notebooks, and mobile phones, for audio recording purposes

only. The type of interview used is structured interview. A structured interview is typically

formal and organized and may include several interviewers, commonly referred to as a

panel interview
Data Collection Procedures

The researchers would give an informed consent to the principal. The

researchers would ask the faculty of University of Cebu-senior high school department

for permission to conduct an interview on various senior high school students in order to

know or to find the root causes behind academic procrastination of senior high students.

Once the researchers would be given the permission to conduct the interview, the

researchers would proceed on handing the questionnaires to the participants. The

participants would be told that they don’t have to answer those questions they don’t feel

comfortable answering and their answers would remain confidential. There will be a

total of 10 participants.

Data Analysis Procedure

The researchers would focus on analyzing the factors of procrastination and the

root causes behind the academic performance of learning of university students. It

would be conducted on 10 students of the University of Cebu through questionnaires

approach. This study would conclude all the causes of the academic performance of

students in terms of classroom learning, participation in activities, submission of their

assignments, preparing for the examinations and achievement. Likewise, the workload

of assignments' and improper time management by the students caused
