• The fault happened during the start-up for Revenue Service on Tuesday

20th September 2011, where a too high rail-earth voltage tripped both
the 22kV and 750 VDC networks locking out the system.
• During the reset operations the 22kV could be restored normally
however on restoring the 750 VDC Track Feeders a too high rail-earth
voltage was again experienced, switching off the networks.
• Fault finding detected the problem to be on circuit N° DOF01 which
feeds the Outer Tunnel Section.
• So the 3rd rail cables were disconnected and isolated from the system,
the station was put into bypass using the Load Break Switches. The
traction power supply system could be restored and revenue service
was started again after 2 hours revenue service shut-down!
• Cable pits had to be pumped dry as the bulk of the cable length is
submerged in water.
• On all 8 cables an insulation test was performed to find the faulty
cable(s).
• Cables N° 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 recorded a value of >1000 M Ohm at 1000
VDC test voltage.
• Cable 4 recorded a value of 0 M Ohm.
• 6 of the removed cables showed no damage and were in good order.
• 1 of the removed cables showed outer sheath damage which appeared
to be old as the damage area was dirty with no clean areas.
• 1 cable was removed in two pieces as the conductor was completely
corroded due to an outer sheath damage and an isolation fault.
