1 Orientation by Mr Loo, the HR department manager.
 Brought me to meet with my assigned
supervisor, QA executive, Mr Tan.
 Mr Loo had introduced me to the production
executive, Mr Prakash.
 Went into office and Mr Loo had introduced me
to the personnel.
Tour guide by Mr Prakash
 Mr Prakash had brought me to walk around
inside the factory, explaining the areas and
facilities they have.
 There are 7 production lines in our factory which
produce the powder Medical Examination
gloves.
 Outside the factory, there are stores for
chemicals and finished goods.
 My work will be related to the production
 Learnt that the on-line parameters that needed to
be maintain mostly were temperature, pressure
and pH value.
 Learnt how to use the infrared thermometer in
testing the temperature besides liquids, for
example former temperature in the oven.
In this week, I understood the process of manufacturing
of rubber gloves. Besides, I learnt the function of each
component of the plant in producing gloves.

2  DQS, the certification body had send 1 auditors

to carry out the ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 audit
on BRI.
 Learnt that after obtaining ISO certification, the
product from the company would be recognize
by worldwide and how ISO helps in making
company systematic by applying it in
management.
 Finally, BRI had passed the ISO 9001 & 13485
audit with minor mistakes, which had to be
rectified within a week.
Continued on revising the daily documents.
 Read the company established procedures.
 Checked the daily QC record.
 Found that other than separating the defective
product from the fine one, the types of defect
classified into many categories, which each of
them represented certain process errors.
 By knowing which types of defect the products
have, the inspection on the root cause of
producing defective product could done faster.

3 Visited cooling room

 Been told by Mr Tan that QC department is very
important to assure the gloves produced have
good quality.
 Mr Tan had brought me to visit the cooling room
where the QC will be done there.
 Found that BRI is applying AQL of 2.5, which
means that by taking samples of 80 pieces, the
number of defect would be maintained at not
more than 5 pieces. Found that the factory not
enough workers issues.
 Observed how the QC workers carried out their
job.
 The air was being pump into the glove to see
clearly whether the gloves have pinholes or any
other defects.
 Noticed that the QC process done by 24 hours
too, which separated into morning and night
shift.
 Noticed that normally the number of rejected
glove would be more than B-grade.
4 Assigned by Mr tan required to monitor the workers
weight the daily reject on line production glove and B-
grade gloves.
Mr Prakash had teach me how to determine the water
quality by using photometer.
 Need to measure the pH value of water, the
concentration of chlorine and iron. This is to
maintain the quality of glove production. If the
iron concentration is too high, the gloves will
turn to yellowish. To prevent the gloves become
4

yellowish, we need to monitor water quality

daily to maintain the water quality.

Summary of the Month: Oct

There were daily tasks that needed to be fulfilled, which helped me to understand
how the operation of the factory. Besides, I had come across with the infrared
thermometer, which is different from the one I usually used in laboratory. Other than
liquid, the infrared thermometer could detect the temperature of solid and gas. Then,
I learnt the method BRI applied in testing the condition of gloves, which they used
compressors to produce stream of air and pump into the gloves. As I noticed there
are many kinds of defect being recorded, I had did research online and asked the
senior workers to understand the root causes and the effect of the defect.

5  Visited another factory in Ijok.
 Observed how the packaging process works.
 Mr Tan had teach me how to control the chiller
temperature.
 A chiller is a machine that removes heat from a
liquid via a vapor-compression or absorption
refrigeration cycle.
 Assisted Mr Tan in checking the factory
 Monitored the workers
6 Assisted Mr Tan in checking the factory
 Monitored the workers
 Do the QC checking.
 Do the water quality checking
 Noticed that the production line 5, the gloves are
overweight. Informed the line leader
immediately to solve the problem. The line
leader told me that need to add more water into
the latex tank in order to reduce the weight of the
gloves.
7 Study on the function of each chemicals.
 Through searching online, I had found the
function of calcium nitrate is to coagulate the
latex on the former.
 The chemicals in tongs with wood pellet on the
bottom carried into the factory by forklift truck
6

because some of the tongs are very heavy which

has approximately 1200 kg.
Asked the line leader regarding types of chemicals being
used in every compounding and the usage amount.
8 After summarizing my findings, I had shared it with Mr
Tan.
 Mr. Tan said that since I had knew the function
and usage of each chemical, he could let me try
in charge of the chemical stock checking and
purchasing of chemicals.
Visiting chemical store.
 Mr. Tan had brought me to the store and shown
me the arrangement of chemicals.

He reminded me to recognize every package of the

chemicals to avoid any mistake and confusion while
checking stocks.

Checked on the chemical stocks.

 Mr. Tan had provided me a chemical stock card
to record down the current stock.
 After I had written down the stock left and
assured by Mr Tan, he allowed me to do the
chemicals purchasing.
 He informed that every chemical has to be order
at least one week earlier the day it used up to
keep the factory running non-stop.
7

Summary of the Month: Nov

After that, I had also studied the chemicals involved in glove manufacturing. As I
got familiar with the usage of chemicals, Mr Tan had given me the opportunity to
be responsible for the chemicals stock checking and purchasing. Since I had found
the usage of each chemical, I could foresee and estimate when to make the
procurement.

9 Assisted Mr Tan in checking the factory.
 Do the water quality checking.
 Do the QC checking.
Found that the gloves in line 5th have lump problem and
high amount of pinhole problem. Informed line leader
and supervisor immediately.
 After reassurance of Mr. Tan, the root cause
found was the formers were dirty. The
production was stopped for 5th line for former
washing and the former which found defective
was replaced too. Former washing is a process to
remove the dirt or stains from the former so that
the quality of the gloves can maintained.
Normally the former washing was carrying out
by every month.
10 Assisted Mr Tan checking the factory.
 Noticed that the latex dipping tank had a sensor
to control the flowrate of the latex.
 Line leader told me the sensor is need to make
sure the liquid level is always constant so that the
length of gloves produced is maintain.
 Besides that, every production line also had a
sensor to calculate the gloves produced.
9

 Assigned by Mr. Tan to calculate the daily

production by using excel.

11 Assisted Mr Tan in checking factory.

 Do the water quality checking.
 Do the QC checking.
 Observed the formers running on the dipping
machine and noticed the formers been rotating
throughout the processes except latex dipping
tank.
 Discussed with technician and he mentioned
that the rotating formers are to ensure the
coagulant is being well spread on the surface of
formers, even the area between fingers.

12 Assisted Mr Tan in checking the factory.

 Noticed the upper level of 3rd and 5th line, which
the leaching tank and slurry tank being placed,
were dirty.
 Informed the line leaders to clean up the gloves
on ground and the powder spilled on the ground.
 Found that the water in the coagulant tank is
overflow. Informed the line to stop the input
immediately.
 Noticed the technician was checking the formers
of 2nd line.
 Observed the formers together with the
technician and he had told me to spot the gloves
with big holes on it.
10

 He explained that the spoiled formers holders

would cause touching between formers and thus
causing the gloves produced to have big holes.
Learnt that the on-line parameters that needed to
be maintain mostly were temperature, pressure
and pH value.

13  Mr. Tan had told me that the latex purchased

need to have at least 60% TSC has to be
compound before transferring into latex
dipping tank. Hence, we will test the latex TSC
for every latex that we purchase in order to
maintain the quality of the gloves.
 Found that the gloves production line 6
become yellowish. Informed Mr. Tan about the
problem. After that, we found this is due the
malfunction of tumbler machine. Tumbler
machine used to reduce powder content in
gloves and reduce moisture level. The gloves
are tumbled in a validated process cycle with
temperature and time critically controlled. This
process is very important because high powder
content and moisture can result in microbial
growth, causing discoloration and unpleasant
odour.
 Order chemical and update the chemical order
in excel.
Summary of the Month: Dec
11

I had started to catch up with things after working for 2 months. In this month, I had
focused more on maintaining the gloves quality by checking QC record and
checking the gloves by myself. I had focused on lowering down the number of
gloves with pinhole as I found maintaining low percentage of pinhole product is the
most challenging part in glove manufacturing. Last month, we found that many
gloves have pinhole problem. Mr. Tan and I been inspecting and found the root
cause as the defective formers. Action been taken immediately to wash the dirty
formers and replace the defective formers. After cleaning and replacing the formers,
the QC record regarding pinhole products had lowered.
