Young Leaders project funded by the #Iwill

We are excited to announce that our new Young
Leaders project taking place this summer in Calderdale
has received funding from the Community Foundation
for Calderdale’s #Iwill programme.

Young Leaders is a residential course to give young
people with a learning disability, autism or both in
Calderdale an opportunity to develop their skills and
confidence, learn about their rights and about leading
and working with others, and improve their connections
within their community and Calderdale.

Young Leaders is a joint project led by Inclusion North
with partners, Lead the Way supported by Cloverleaf
Advocacy, and Calderdale MBC. The Young Leaders
will work with co-learners, other young people who are
keen to develop their skills, opening up opportunities
and new friendships and networks for them. This
exciting project will also be co-facilitated by role models
with a learning disability or autism.

Inclusion North are a community interest company
established in 2005 working across Yorkshire and
Humber and the North East to make inclusion a reality
for all people with a learning disability or autism and
their families.

Lead the Way is part of Cloverleaf Advocacy and
provides a community-based advice and
information service, helping people to stay healthy and
independent in their own community. Lead the
Way supports people with a learning disability and
their carers to find creative solutions.

#Iwill is a UK-wide campaign aiming to get 6 out of 10
young people involved in social action by 2020. Big
Lottery Fund and the Department of Culture, Media &
Sport have invested £20 million each to the #iwill fund to
support young people to access high quality social
action opportunities.
Social action involves activities such as campaigning,
fundraising and volunteering, all of which enable
participants to make a positive difference to their
communities. Social action develops the skills and
knowledge of young people that employers look for.
