Formulation
Each gram contains:
Chlorobutanol..........................................20mg
Zinc oxide..................................................73mg
Eucalyptus oil............................................14mg
Bismuth subnitrate....................................37mg

Description of the Product


Chlorobutanol (anhydrous) is a volatile, colorless or white crystalline powder with a musty
camphoraceous odor.

Zinc oxide is a white or faintly yellowish-white, soft, amorphous powder, free from gritty particles.

Eucalyptus oil is a colorless or pale yellow liquid with a characteristic aromatic camphoraceous
odor and a punget camphoraceous taste.

Bismuth subnitrate is a white, slightly hygroscopic powder.

Pharmacology
When heated in aqueous solution, cholorobutanol is unstable especially at pH greater than 7.
Under these conditions, it undergoes elimination.

Indication
Burn ointment is a dermatological and mucous membrane agent used topically as a local
anesthetic and antiseptic which promotes healing on burns and scalds, protects it from bacterial
infection and gives a soothing effect which relieves pain and itch. It contains chlorobutanol, a
component with antibacterial and germicidal effect; zinc oxide, eucalyptus oil and bismuth
subnitrate, with astringent, protective, antiseptic and adsorbent properties.

Contraindication

Precautions
Normal precaution must be observed appropriate to the circumstances and quantity of material
handled. Chlorobutanol may be irritating to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Zinc oxide
can cause skin and eye irritation and is considered as a nuisance powder.

Adverse Effect
Chlorobutanol, together with the presence of other compounds as well as by the packaging
material, can cause an adverse effect, CNS depression with weakness, loss of consciousness, and
depressed respiration may be produced from acute poisoning with chlorobutanol. Delayed
hypersensitivity reactions may occur but rarely.

Dosage and Administration


Apply burn ointment topically on affected superficial areas and non-infected burns as prescribed
by the physician. Cover with gauze dressing when necessary.

Warnings
For external use only. Keep out of the reach of children.

Patient Information
Clean the affected area and remove the burnt layer of the skin before putting an ice pack, and
then carefully apply the burn ointment.

Storage Conditions
Store at temperature not exceeding 25O in airtight containers. Keep well closed, cool and protect
from light.
