400-94 And 400-63

Description
The Baker “K-1” Cement Retainer is a high per-
formance drillable cement retainer ideal for most
remedial cementing applications. The “K-1” was
designed to function as a drillable squeeze packer
which, after cementing, acts as a plug trapping
squeeze pressure on the cement below the retain-
er and isolating the newly cemented area from the
hydrostatic pressures above the cement retainer.

Features / Benefits
• Choice In Setting - wireline, mechanical or
hydraulic
• High Performance - 10,000 psi and 400oF in
most sizes (see specification guide).
• Superior Running Characteristic - Increased
clearance for faster, safer run-in with the
packing element locked against swab-off
forces.
• Locked Construction - Locked-in Upper Slips
(mechanical set), Upper Cone, Packing
Element, Lower Cone and Lower Slips.
• Adaptable - “K-1” Cement Retainer consists of
a basic unit which can easily be converted to a
flapper valve type retainer or to a bridge plug.
All models may be converted to wireline or
mechanical set.

In this position, the Latch is unsupported and an
upstrain of approximately 10,000 lbs will snap the
Stinger Sub out of the Retainer to reverse circulate
or pull out of the hole. The Stinger Sub can be re-
installed into the Retainer by slacking off to start

retainer and control pins. The mechanism rotates
around the latch as the control pins are cammed
through the j-slot configuration of the stinger sub
body during the various cementing operations.
This design facilitates the rotation of the stinger
sub during operation by allowing unrestricted
movement of the control pins. The “C-2” has the
addition of high-strength torque pins to prevent
damage to the control pins during actuation.

Cement Retainer 2AA
Tubing 2-3/8 OD EU
Maximum Hook load before stabbing Stinger Sub 7,000 lbs
Maximum Cementing Pressure 3,000 psi
Change in tubing pressure at tool (due to heavier fluid introduced
during cementing pressure) 3,500 psi
Annulus Pressure to be applied during cementing 1,000 psi
3,500 psi (Tubing Pressure Change at Tool) x 1.72 (Col 1)
= 6,020 lbs DOWN
1,000 psi (Annulus Pressure Change at Tool) x 3.02 (Col 2)
= 3,020 lbs UP
6,000 - 3,020 = 3,000 lbs
3,000 lbs Down
Only a minimum set down is required.
3,000 psi (Gage Pressure) x 3.13 (Col 3)
= 9,390 lbs UP
6,020 - 3,020 - 9,300

This is less than the maximum hook load of 7,000 lbs, therefore, job may be performed.
