A. NARRATIVE AND PICTORIAL REPORT
ON THE BEST PRACTICES IN THE DISTRICT OF SAN MATEO

I. INTRODUCTION

Thomas L. Friedman, author of The World Is Flat, refers to a twenty-first century world that will
be very different from the one in which we were educated. To survive in a globally competitive
world, today's schoolchildren will need creativity, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for
learning, and lifelong learning opportunities. Students can develop these abilities through
instruction based on Best Practice teaching strategies. San Mateo Schools strive to provide
teaching strategies that encompass all the needs of the schoolchildren.

II. OBJECTIVES

• Provides access to opportunities for a rigorous curriculum based on the Philippine Department
of Education K-12 Curriculum.
• Provides opportunities for individual acceleration and remediation.
• Nurtures self-esteem and respect.
• Increases motivation through exploring individual interests and
• Builds relationships with students by knowing their strengths.

reading the multiplication table.

GUITNANGBAYAN
The teachers of GBES started using multimedia presentation for their
ELEMENTARY
Grades 1 and 2 classes since 2010. Kindergarten and the rest of the grade
levels SCHOOL
followed suit since the implementation of the K-12 Curriculum
Program. Their computer-aided instruction proved to be effective in
catching the interests of the young children in their presentation.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters
It was also during lunchbreaks that our
fast readers served as mentors to
frustration and non-readers. They acted
as big brothers/sisters to slow readers.
Read During Lunch Break (RDLB)

During lunch break, after eating, our pupils read books in

our reading corner/mini-library. They devoted their time
in reading fables, short stories and even our big books
instead of chatting nonsense, thus enhancing their
reading ability.
Remediation Classes
As commitment to our non-numerates and
non-readers, every teacher has remediation
classes for them to improve their abilities. The
teachers provide ample time to give
reinforcement activities in mastering number
concepts and basic math facts.
