RESOLUTION HONORING THE ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER AND

MEMORY OF CAPTAIN ROBERT LOUIS ADAMS, ARANSAS-CORPUS


CHRISTI PILOT

WHEREAS, the Aransas-Corpus Christi Pilots and fellow mariners were deeply
saddened to learn of the passing of Captain Robert Louis Adams; and

WHEREAS, Captain Adams was a second-generation Mariner and Texas State


Pilot with more than 45 years of service in the maritime industry; and

WHEREAS, Captain Adams assisted with the response and clean-up following the
1989 oil spill in Valdez, Alaska; and

WHEREAS, he subsequently was accepted into the prestigious Aransas-Corpus


Christi Deputy Program; and

WHEREAS, the third most senior Aransas-Corpus Christi Pilot, he diligently


worked his way up from Journeyman to Master Mariner; and

WHEREAS, in his community involvement, he was one of the founders of the


Aransas Pass Yacht Club; and

WHEREAS, his fellow pilots described him, with respect and admiration, as “the
consummate professional,” and elected him to two terms as the Presiding Officer of the
Aransas-Corpus Christi Pilots; and

WHEREAS, Houston Texas fan, Captain Adams was the quintessential family
man, loved his grandchildren dearly and, each year, took his family to DisneyWorld; and

WHEREAS, he widely was known for his compassion and heart, Captain Adams
once nurtured a dream of becoming a veterinarian, as he was loved by all creatures,
including his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Susie; and

WHEREAS, Captain Adams led by example and leaves behind a legacy of


integrity, professionalism, solidarity and fellowship; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PORT COMMISSION OF THE


PORT OF CORPUS CHRISTI AUTHORITY OF NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT: We
honor Captain Adams today and celebrate his decorated career, marked by character,
alacrity and stalwart commitment to excellence.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Port Commission of the Port of Corpus Christi


Authority, for itself and on behalf of the Port staff and the Port community shares its
sincerest condolences for the family of Captain Robert Louis Adams.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, we express our deepest gratitude and veneration
for the decades of commendable service that Captain Adams selflessly gave to the
Aransas-Corpus Christi Pilots, the citizens of the Coastal Bend, and to the maritime
industry; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED this resolution be included in the permanent


minutes of this Port Commission meeting, July 17th, 2018, and that a signed original of
this Resolution be presented to his beloved wife of 45 years, Karen Elaine Womack
Adams, and their son, Robert Andrew Adams, and daughter, Elizabeth Adams Spivey.
