1.0 INTRODUCTION
Wordless story books have been widely used in the classroom especially among the
preschool children as it helps in the development of both receptive and productive skills.
These books consist of many images that are arranged in a way that story line is formed
without any single word to describe the plotline. It is a great book to boost up the children
creativity and imagination. Thus, wordless book can be a positive teaching tool to help
the young children to read and as a model for the formation of written language.
In this assignment, I have discussed a brief definition of wordless books and its benefits
to young children. Furthermore, I have discussed thoroughly on how the wordless books
help in the development of receptive and productive skills among preschool children. I
have selected four preschool children to try out the strategies that showing how wordless
books assist both the development of receptive and productive skills. In other words, two
children have been selected to represent the receptive skills – each for listening and
reading skills, while the remaining two children are representing the productive skills –
each for speaking and writing skills. In addition, the four selected children have been
labelled as Child A that representing for listening skill, Child B for reading skill, Child C
for Speaking skill and Child D for writing skill. Lastly, framework has been drawn in a
table form to summarize the strategies used for each child.
