EXT. RUN DOWN SHACK IN WOODS - LATE AFTERNOON OVERCAST We open on a small run down wooden shack in the middle of a forest. pan down to the only road in or out. A beat up old truck with a sheriffs star and the words "KANABEC County POLICE" encircling it. the camera pans down and down and stops at the trucks trucks front wheel. A pair of rugged winter boots step out of the truck and slowly make their way up the two steps and up to the front door of the shack. INT. SHACK - LATE AFTERNOON The room is filled with candles and clustered with random junk. Incense floats up and through the one room shack. The three pieces of furniture in the cramped space are two wooden chairs and a table draped in a massively purple cloth. At one end of the table sits a BLUE EYED GIRL with huge blond hair wearing large monotone bracelets and a bright pink tube top. At the other sits an OLD BEARDED MAN in a beaten up dirty gray suit and a old fifties style hat (also gray) placed on his head in such a way that all but his lips and chin are visible. BLUE EYED GIRL (airheadedly) "so you can, like, tell me if Derick is cheating...right?" OLD BEARDED MAN (funny old accent that exactly from anywhere, kinda europeish) "Te spirits know many tings...you’re relationship are just vone of many tings vill reveal to me tonight...assuming you have...payment..." is not just issues sey
BLUE EYED GIRL "OH hey yeah! Oh don’t worry, I got like all the dough, like my dad kinda owns the only hotel in like the whole county or something, like have you heard of the,ah, like the cross lake tower? it’s like the-" The door creaks open and in steps the rugged old boots.
SHERIFF (in a very gruff, classic manly sheriff voice) "Sharron everyone in the tri county area knows of that rickety old place...course that only amounts to about 50 people..." SHARRON shrinks in her chair and avoids looking at the sheriff. The older gentlemen leans back in his chair and a dresses the sheriff. OLD BEARDED MAN (calmly) "Mr. Woodson dese sessions need privacy. I can’t have you barging in here disrupting my customers." SHERIFF (takes out a cigarette and starts to light it) "well now, the thing is, I can...And I can’t have you barging in to my townships and harassing my populace..." OLD BEARDED MAN "Mr. Voodson, I am simply a business man. People seek me out for my...unique talents." SHERIFF "Well now you can run whatever business you like...But I have had several complaints about you scaring’ people’s kids, wives. I got one lady who says you told her that her son would die unless they moved out of this town...and she did... just got up and left...left her husband...left her house and all her possessions." OLD BEARDED MAN "I just told her vat te spirits told me I did not make her leave I only reveal vat might happen. After dat der decisions are all der own." SHERIFF (begins poking around the shack and messing with the oddities inside.) (MORE) (CONTINUED)
SHERIFF (cont’d) "Well now that might be fine and dandy, you givin’ people helpful friendly advice for the simple price of 120 greenbacks, but the funny thing is right after she left her house was robbed. Cleaned out of all valuables. And this ain’t the first time something like this has happened." OLD BEARDED MAN "Now vat exactly are you saying sheriff?" SHERIFF "Well now I find it a might big coincidence that you happen to scare away folks and then all their valuables go missing the day after they leave town...and well my suspect pool is very small..." The sheriff turns his attention to Sharon, who has been looking at the floor this entire time, suddenly looks up at the sheriff. SHERIFF "What about you Sharon? You rob those folks?" SHARON (quietly) "no..." SHERIFF "Well now I didn’t take em, and Sharon didn’t take em’. So That leaves about five people in this town, and two of those five are the old Manson couple, so naturally my suspicious have fallen on you." OLD BEARDED MAN "Now look here voodson! I have done nothing!" SHERIFF "Well if that is true then you won’t mind if I search your place now do you?"
The sheriff begins poking through things on the walls. The old bearded man is looking angry and nervous. Sharon is sitting quietly and has gone back to looking at the floor. SHERIFF "Sharon, why don’t you wait out by my truck. I’ll give you a ride back to town as soon as I’m done here." Sharon nods and quietly gathers up her purse and exits. The sheriff returns his attention back to riffling through the Old mans odds and ends. EXT. RUN DOWN SHACK IN WOODS - LATE AFTERNOON OVERCAST Sharon exits the shack and heads toard the truck. She then stops abruptly and listens to the sound of something moving around in the back of the truck. She approaches it cautiously and all of a sudden a kid with dirty brown hair, about age 13 jumps out of the back. SHARON "Jamie!...Jamie you scared me!" JAMIE "What are you doing here?" SHARON (catching breath) "I was, like, here to see Mr. Rapovski...What are you doing here? Your dad bring you along?" JAMIE "Nah, he hates it when I tag along...I just wanted to sneak out to see this guys place, my dad talks about how he’ll run and rob everyone out of town." SHARON "Oh your dad worries to much, like its not like he’s hurt anyone. He’s just like a harmless nut guy..."
INT. SHACK - LATE AFTERNOON The SHERIFF is riffling through the shelves and comes across a piece of parchment wrapped around an ornamental knife and tied with a blood red piece of cloth. The sheriff reaches for it. All of a sudden the Mr. Rapovski leaps out of his chair and tries to snatch it away form him. OLD BEARDED MAN "NOO! DON"T TOUCH THAT!" He struggles with the sheriff, but the sheriff pushes him aside. In doing so pricks his finger on the exposed point of the knife, which has fallen out of the scroll and now lays on the floor, a bit of the sheriff’s blood runing down the tip. As Mr. Rapovski is thrown to the ground a look of horror is spread across his face. The sheriff winces at his cut but shakes it off. The sheriff the slowly starts to open the scroll. Mr. Raopvski begins to protest. MR. RAPOVSKI "PLEASE! YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!" SHERIFF "Now what is there not to understand? Please enlighten me." MR. RAPOVSKI (Whispering) "vyhl’adajte m´ rtvych" SHERIFF (The sheriff has stopped opening the scroll) "what?" MR. RAPOVSKI (quietly and panicked) "vyhl’adajte m´ rtvych...vyhl’adajte m´ rtvych" SHERIFF "ya wanna stop spewin’ your gibberish and tell me exactly why I should stop searching this rat hole?" MR. RAPOVSKI "vyhl’adajte m´ rtvych...is the scroll of the dead....I...It...It was entrusted to me-"
SHERIFF (interrupting in sharp tone) "I am four seconds away from hauling your ass down to county! I was just makin’ a nice visit but now you try and pull this magic shit-..." The Sheriff gives the old man the stare down and begins unravelling the scroll. EXT. RUN DOWN SHACK IN WOODS - AFTERNOON SUDDENLY STORMY Jamie and Sharon are sitting outside leaning against the truck and talking. We come in mid-conversation, when one of them notices the change of weather. SHARON "I mean it’s not like I don’t trust Ricky, I mean I do, but like I saw him with like Becky after school one day, I mean they weren’t like kissing or anything but like-" A flash of thunder and lightning interrupts her jabbering. Jamie who was not listening to a single word of it suddenly turns his attention skyward, as does Sharon. SHARON "Whoa...This weather is like bi-polar...You think like Ricky could be like bi-polar or like ya know like all imbalanced or-" We return to the scene in the cabin before she can finish. INT. SHACK The sheriff has the scroll half open when the lightning is heard. The sheriff stops and sets his eyes on the celling, as does Mr.Rapovski. This does not interrupt them for long. The sheriff goes back to unferaling the scroll, while Mr. Rapovski has gonna practically comatose and is just whispering in Slovak. We peer over the sheriff’s shoulder as he looks at the only words on the scroll scrawled in red ink on the far left side of the scroll, which are as fallows: Jarlio Rapovski, Suvid Rapovski, Zlota Rapovski, and Nikita Rapovski.
CONTINUED: SHERIFF (Really weirded out and still a little angry) "What the hell...Is this like your family tree or some shit? Why am I not allowed to see this?" Another lightning strike is heard, rumbling through the shack. The shack creaks eerily. Mr. Rapovski stands up. MR. RAPOVSKI (stuttering and panicked) "Mr. Voodson...I beg you please just set down te scroll...You don’t vnat to be responsible for vat vill happen if you don’t-"
Mr. Rapovski spots the knife with residue of blood on the blade. The blood then suddenly appears to be absorbed into the blade. Mr. Rapovski is now horror stricken backs away from the sheriff and accidentally bumbs into the back of his cabin. The sheriff looks at the scroll then at Rapovski then back at the scroll. We too glance at the scroll surprisingly there is a fifth name on the scroll: Alex Woodson. The sheriff looks one last time at Rapovski. SHERIFF (slowly, astounded) "What the hell..." We zoom in on Mr. Rapovski to get his response. His only words are a little prayer, simple and straight to the point. MR. RAPOVSKI (whispered) "Boh nás ochráni" CRASH! The second after he mutters those words a pair of half rotten arms bust through the thin walls of the shack and pull him out. He screams. We cut after only a half second after we see the arms. EXT. RUN DOWN SHACK IN WOODS - FREQUENT LIGHTNING We pan out form behind the truck Sharon’s voice can be heard the whole time before we sit ourselves comfortably next to the young teens. "Okay so dyslexia bi-polar like the SHARON like I don’t know if is like similar to like stuff but it like does same thing right?" (CONTINUED)
Jamie is uninterested, but he does look like he is about to answer when a loud crash and scream from inside the shack. The two kids jump up. Jamie starts to approach the house slowly. A boom of thunder makes Jamie’s eyes turn skyward and he slowly spins as if looking for the source of thunder. He stops just short of the shack steps. All is quiet for fiveish seconds. Even Sharon has, like, shut her trap. The silence is broken by some groans and shambling sounds coming from the forest. Sharon and Jamie look around anxiously. The graons fade and again scilence. BANG! BANG! Gun shots are heard from inside the shack. Jamie sprints up the steps. JAMIE (screaming) "DAD! DAD! DA-" The door swings open right before Jamie can reach itteh force of the opening door and the objects tumbling out slam into Jamie knocking him flat. Sharon’s screams can be heard in the background as well as several louder moans, and shuffles. We then turn our attention to what came tumbling out of the door. Not surprisingly it is a zombie munching away on the sheriff’s neck and torso. It is important to point out that Sharon’s screams are no longer audible. Sharon (share-bear) Wilks: Jan 23rd 1986- Sep. 5th 2002 We turn our attention to Jamie who has is starting to get up when he sees two things: First his dad being munched on by a zed, and seconed he spots his dads revolver, which we spot as well, and focus on until Jamie runs over and picks it up. shakeily he aims it at the zombie. BANG! A bullet whizzes past the ghoul. This is enough to get the zombies attention. It stops munching on the tasty hunk of manly sheriff and decides to try some fun sized protagonist bites. As the bundle of recently summoned rotten flesh shambles toward our young gun slinger Jamie fires off another round. BANG! Another miss. The drooling zombie is now back on two feet and getting closer by the second. BANG! The bullet hits the G right, square in the chest slowing it down only for half a second. Jamie closes his eyes shaking with terror. The zombie speeds up to about the speed of a strolling pregnant woman (which is actually much faster then before) and lunges at Jamie. BANG! The zombie tumbles on to Jamie causing him to fall flat back on the ground. Harvey Newman, lawyer: May 9th 1865- Apr 11th 1905, sep 5th 2002- sep 5th 2002. Jamie struggles to push the twice dead corpse off of him. Groans can be heard from off screen. Jamie succeeds in heaving the once hungry and happy, reanimated lawyer off his body and immediately runs over and kneels next to his dad. Who surprisingly is still alive, Barely. (CONTINUED)
JAMIE WOODSON "Dad...." SHERIFF WOODSON (choking on his own blood) "Ja-Jamie...I-I...T-ta-take th-this...Must-fi-..." JAMIE WOODSON "...Da-Dad?..." SHERIFF WOODSON "*gargle* *gargle* scr-scroll-knife-Jam-Jamie..." Alex (Sheriff) Woodson: Aug 17th 1960 - Sep 5th 2002 His last act is handing his son his star shaped sheriffs badge. Jamie pushing back tears takes it and slowly stands up. A loud moan is the only thing that breaks him out of his trance. Clutching his dads star and his revolver he whirls around to face his new opponent. His new opponent is not so easily intimidated. As we observe this new opponent is a very large army of zombies slowly closing in on him and a few munching on the once chatty Share-bear. Jamie is also not so easily intimidated he whips the pistol out aiming steadily at the closest zombie. Click...The revolver has run out. Realizing this he runs all heroic like towards his dads truck, narrowly dodging a ghoul. He then leaps up into the bed of the pick up and snatches a tire iron. Leaping back out of the bed and smashing a zombies head mid-air. The second the zombies brains come flying out at the screen the shot freezes and turns into a comic book page style animation. Black, White, Red are the only colors in the comic book panels. The shot remains frozen for a few seconds then the words scrawled in small, handwritten, white, letters appear. Mitch Cannon, Porn star: Oct 31st 1950- Feb 12th 1990 another second passes and more words appear below. Sep 5th 2002- Sep 5th 2002. A series of comic book panels fly by to some kick ass rock music all in the same style. It’s the sick ass title sequence! A picture of a guy in his boxers, standing in the forest, getting pounced by a zombie munching on his head. A girl, trying to keep her bra from falling off, is seen laying on the ground scrambling to get up as a zed helps himself to a human drumstick. The same white letters slowly appear. (CONTINUED)
Ricky Malbake (my-sweet-cake): Mar 17th 1986- sep 5th 2002. Becky Lancaster: June 18th 1988- Sep 5th 2002. Another pannel. This one starts close up on an old man mid-screm while a zombie grabs him from behind. The shot pulls back revealing an elderly woman, also mid-scream, stabing the zombie in the back with what appears to be a kniting needle, while another zombie busts through a window at the old woman. The captions are as fallows... Greg Manson: Apr 16th 1925- Sep 5th 2002 Darla Manson: June 25th 1930- sep 5th 2002 Yet another pannel of death floats into view. This time it is of a priest standing at an alter stabbing a long, ornamental candel holder trough a zombies chest. As the picture zooms out we see a woman, in nice clothing, trying to ward off two zombies with a small cross. Another zombie is falling through the giant stain glass window high above the priest. More captions appear. Father John Locke: Jul 4th 1952- Sep.5th 2002 Mary Locke: Dec 25th 1955- Sep. 6th 2002 Another still. This one starts close up on a star shaped badge with the words KANABEC County POLICE" engraved in it. As it slowly zooms out the rest of the credits come and go. The shot continues to zoom out and we see that it is Jamie a few years in the future. He’s a healthy 18 year old, has his fatehrs 5 o’clock shadow and chizeled face. He is standing on a car painting the sidewalk with a zombies brainz. while other dead zombies lay around him. He has quite the colection of ammo belts and guns as well as a tire iron in his other hand, dripping in red ink. Captions appear over all of the dead zombies, of which there are many, so many in fact that the names and dates over lap. All of the zobies seconed birth/death dates are sep 5th 2002- sep 17th 2007. The last caption to appear is next to Jamie. Jamie Woodson: June 3rd 1989- ???. The picture fades. It is important to note that a ways in the background a sign with the words "Cross Lake Tower next exit" neatly printed on it is visible, although not prominent.
Cut to the final pannel its just a car along a barren highway driving away from the viewer. Caption: "5 years later..."
