Benvolio and Mercutio enter]
Benvolio: Romeo, my cousin,
Romeo! Romeo!
Mercutio: He probably went
home to bed.
Benvolio: No, he ran that way.
Call him!
Mercutio: [laughs] Na! I’ll make
him appear! Yo! Romeo! Lover-
boy! We know you’re here. Say
one thing and we will leave you
alone! Just yell! Say
something! [pauses]
Apparently, he can’t hear me.
He won’t move. This stupid kid
probably passed out love-drunk
somewhere, but he can’t hide
forever. Hey Romeo!
Rosaline’s here with us!
[Pauses] Ok, dude, just come
out.
Benvolio: Your going to make
him angry.
Mercutio: He wont be mad.
But he would be mad if I had
some strange person marry
her. What I’m doing is fine. I’m
just saying the name of the girl
he loves to make him appear
from the darkness.
Benvolio: C’mon, he’s hidden
behind one of those trees for a
reason. His love is blind.
Therefore, he belongs in the
dark.
Mercutio: Watch, He’ll sit
under that dang tree, wasting
the night away, thinking about
his “true love.” [laughs] Good
night, Romeo. I’m going to bed.
[to Benvolio] And I don’t plan
on sleeping out here.
(to Benvolio) Come on, let’s
can’t fool me.
Benvolio: Yeah, There’s no
point in looking for him if he
doesn’t want to be found.
(Benvolio and Mercutio exit)
Act 2 Scene 2
[Romeo enters]
Romeo: It’s easy for someone
to joke about scars if they’ve
never been cut.
[Juliet enters on the balcony]
Romeo: But wait, what light
through yonder window
breaks? There she is! I wonder
if she knows how I feel. Does
she know how beautiful she is?
Ah, I’ve never seen anything
that could be more perfect!
Juliet: ugh! (direct)
Romeo: [whispers to himself]
What! Did she hear me?
Juliet: [not
knowing Romeo hears her] Oh,
Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art
thou Romeo? But why do you
have to be Romeo? Just
change your school. If you

and I’ll stop going to Capulet.
Romeo: [to himself] I can’t
believe I’m eavesdropping..I
feel like I’m in 4th grade. But I
have to know. [listens

Juliet: [still not knowing
Romeo can hear her] It’s only
the school that you go to that
makes you my enemy. You
would still be you if you
stopped going to
Montague...but what does that
name mean anyways? The
thing that we call a rose would
smell just as sweet if we called
it by any other name.This
would be so much easier if we
just went to the same school!
He should change it, and in

Romeo: [to Juliet] Just tell me
you love me, and I’ll switch
schools, heck, I’d even change
my name. I will never be

Juliet: Who are you? Were you

a silver- [gets cut off by Juliet ]
Juliet: No! Don’t swear to the
moon. Its always changing. I
don’t want you to be
inconsistent too.
Romeo: Then what should I
swear by?
Juliet: Nothing. If you have to,
swear to yourself. Then I’ll
believe you.
Romeo: In my heart’s dear
love- [gets cut off
by Juliet again]
Juliet: Don’t swear! You make
me happy- [phone vibrates]
Whoa, I didn’t realize the time. I
have to go. Good night,
Romeo. We have a good thing
going, let’s not ruin it.
Romeo: So, wait, your just
going to leave?
Juliet: Why would I stay?
Romeo: To talk about feelings,
duh?
Juliet: I already promised you
my love, but I can’t take it back.
Romeo: Why would you want

[Nurse calls for Juliet]
Juliet: Shh... I heard

[Juliet leaves]

Juliet!

[Romeo starts to leave. Juliet

Juliet: Pst! Romeo! My house
is nearly a prison, I have to be

Romeo: [smiles] Miss me
already?
Juliet: [jokes] Oh shut it!
Should I text you tomorrow?
Romeo: Yeah, before 9
o’clock.
Juliet: Okay. [sigh] If I have to
wait that long.
Juliet: You should go. It’s
almost morning.
[Juliet exits]
Romeo: I shall meet with my
priest to tell him the good

Act 2 Scene 3
[Friar Lawrence enters by
himself, carrying a basket]
Friar Lawrence: The day is
almost over. Before morning, I
have to get my supplies ready.
Herbs, plants, and stones.
[Romeo enters]
Romeo: Good morning, father.
Friar Lawrence: [holds up a
flower] Romeo, you might just
think this is a flower, but it’s
not. You see, It appears one
way, but does another. There
are two opposite elements in
everything, in men as well-
good and evil. When evil is
dominant, death soon kills the
body like cancer.
Friar Lawrence: Why are you
up so early? Is something
wrong? [says to himself] If
anything, I should be worried,
but a young man like
yourself...[trails off into a
whisper and shakes head] Tell
me what’s wrong. You haven’t
even been to bed yet, have
you?
Romeo: [sighs] I’ve slept
better.
Friar Lawrence: Were you with
Rosaline?
Romeo: [chuckle] Oh, please.
I’m done with her.
Friar Lawrence: That’s
good...Where have you been?
Romeo: I’ve been hanging out
with “the enemy” and I can’t get
her out of my head.
Friar Lawrence: Explain.
Romeo: I’m in love with a girl
who goes to Capulet. I love
her, and she loves me. I need
you to marry us. I’ll tell you all
the details later. Will you help
us?
Friar Lawrence: [raises
eyebrows] Are you sure your
over her? Just remembering
you crying over her...And now
there’s someone new. Now
you’ve changed? You can’t
expect women to be faithful
when men are so unreliable.
Romeo: You were always
nagging me about loving
Rosaline.
Friar Lawrence: You didn’t
love her. You loved the idea of
loving someone.
Romeo: You told me to forget
about her.
Friar Lawrence: I didn’t tell
you to replace Roseline with
Juliet.
Romeo: Just let it go! I love her
and she loves me.
Friar Lawrence: I’ll help you
with this secret wedding. This
marriage may be lucky enough
to turn the hatred between the
schools into peace.
Romeo: Ok, lets go. I’m in a

Friar Lawrence: Go wisely and
slowly. Those who rush

[They exit]
Act 2 Scene 4
[Benvolio and Mercutio enter]

Mercutio: Where the heck is
Romeo? Didn’t he come home
last night?
Benvolio: No, I asked a maid.
Mercutio: That girl, Rosaline,
is going to drive him crazy.
Benvolio: Dude! Check out
this letter that was sent to
Romeo’s house.
Mercutio: I bet it’s a challenge.
Benvolio: Whatever they throw
at him, he can take it.
Mercutio: [jokes] We can just
answer it for him.
Benvolio: No, Romeo’s gotta
answer it.
Mercutio: [high pitch voice and
puts hand on forehead] Oh!
Romeo!! [back to normal voice
but still joking] The poor guy is
whipped! Is his head in the
game enough to fight Tybalt?
Benvolio: What’s his problem?
Mercutio: He’s tough when it
comes to fights. He’s skilled
and determined to win. This
could be dangerous if Romeo
isn’t focused.
[Romeo walks in]
Benvolio: [whispers to
Mercutio] Speak of the devil.
Mercutio: [whispers to
Benvolio] He’s probably been
up all night, thinking about
Rosaline. [says to Romeo] You
faked us out pretty good last
night.
Romeo: [sarcastic] Good
morning to you too...What do
you mean I faked you out?
Mercutio: You gave us the
slip, SIR, the slip! Do you
understand what I’m saying?

Romeo: Well, excuse me! I
had other things to do.
Mercutio: In other words

Mercutio: [surrenders with

break this up, Benvolio. I’m
running out of comebacks.
Romeo: You’re just afraid that
I’ll win.
Mercutio: Your jokes aren't
even that funny.
Romeo: I’m sorry my humor is
to witty for you to comprehend.
Mercutio: [laughs] I'll punch
you for that one.
Romeo: [sacrcastic] Oh,
please. Like that was a joke.
Mercutio: Your joke is sour,
and your humor is scandalous.
Romeo: [jokes] Sounds like a
party!
Mercutio: That was weak,
running out of things to say
already?
Romeo: You’d like to think so.
Mercutio: [laughs and puts
arm around shoulder] Is it me,
or is this joking a whole lot
better than complaining about
love? You’re talkative. NOW,
you’re Romeo. You’re just a
normal kid having a good time.
Benvolio: I think he gets it
now, Mercutio
Mercutio: What, you want me
to stop my story already?
Benvolio: Well, knowing you,
your story would have gone on
too long.
Mercutio: Oh really? How
would you know that? I was
just getting to the main
message, and planning on
ending it there.
[the Nurse enters with her
servent, Peter]
Romeo: Here’s something
good.
Benvolio: A sail, a sail! 4
Mercutio: Hm, a man and a
women.
Nurse: Peter!
Peter: What’s up?
Nurse: Give me a fan, Peter.
Mercutio: [jokes] Ya Peter,
hurry up with that fan. It’s far
better than her, the sooner she
can get behind it, the better.
Maybe it will blow a few years
off her.. she needs it.
Nurse: [rolls eyes] Good
morning, gentlemen.
Mercutio: Good afternoon, fair
lady.
Nurse: Is it the afternoon?
Mercutio: [rude tone] Just look
at the clock.
Nurse: Get out! What kind of a
guy are you?
Mercutio: Just a regular guy
that isn’t perfect.
Nurse: [sighs] ....Anyway, can
anyone tell me where young

Benvolio: She’ll invite him to
some dinner party.

Romeo: [rolls eyes] Here we

Mercutio: (he walks by them

(speaking)[laughs] Yo Romeo,

[Benvolio and Mercutio exit]
Nurse: Romeo, who was that
obnoxious guy? No offense,
but with all those jokes, he’s a
pig.
Romeo: [snickers] He’s just
one of those guys who likes the
sound of his own voice. He
says more in one minute than
most people say in a whole
month.
Nurse: I swear, if he comes in
here and talks like that to me
one more time, I’ll kick him! I
don’t care how strong he is or
how many friends he’s got, I’ll
do it, Who does he think he is,
comin’ in here and thinkin’ he
can say whatever he wants to
me...(to Peter) and you! You
just stand there and let every
jerk make fun of me for kicks.
Peter: Nobody was using you
for kicks. But if they did, I’d
stand up for you, trust me.
Nurse: [throws hands up in the
air] Ugh! I’m so angry! (to
Romeo) Now can I talk to you?
Juliet asked me to find you. I’m
not gunna tell you what she

you this first. If you think about
tricking her, you can bet that
you’ll pay the consequences.

Nurse: You have a good heart,

good thing to do...
Romeo: Tell her to find a way
to sneak out and come to Friar
Lawrence’s cell so she can
make confession and be
married. (giving hercoins)Take

Nurse: Oh, you don’t need to

Romeo: Please, I want you to.
Nurse: Romeo...
Romeo: Go on, I insist.
Nurse: (taking the money) This

Act 2 Scene 5 (4th page)
Juliet: I sent the Nurse at nine
o'clock. Maybe she can’t find
him...i doubt it. She’s so slow!
To bad we can’t just send
thoughts. It’s already noon!
That’s three hours since nine
o'clock, and she’s still gone! If
she just knew how important
this was to me, she’d be flying
over here! [sigh]
[The Nurse and Peter enter]
Juliet: Finally! Sooo, Have you
spoken to him? What did you
find out?! Peter, could you step
out for a second?
Nurse: Peter, wait for me

[Peter exits]
Juliet: What happened, you

Act 2 scene 6
[Friar
Lawrence and Romeo enter]
Friar Lawrence: May the
heavens be happy with this
holy act of marriage, so nothing
unfortunate happens later to
make us regret it.
Romeo: Amen. But whatever
road-blocks get put up, they
can’t ruin the joy I feel with one
look at her. All you have to do
is make it so, it’s enough for
me if I can call her mine.
Friar Lawrence: These violent
delights have violent ends, and
in their triumph die, like fire and
powder, which as they kiss,
consume. Too much honey is
delicious, but it makes you sick
to your stomach. Take it easy.
That’s the key to long-lasting
love. Too fast is as bad as too
slow.

Benvolio- Come on let’s go in and
dance!
Romeo- No I’m not going. Let me
stay on the outskirts and watch.
I’ve never really liked dancing and
I’m tired.
Mercutio- Come on, we’ll help
you through this and dancing will
help you a lot.
Romeo-No, it won’t. And I know
we aren’t trying to get in any
trouble going to the dance, but it
doesn’t seem like that good of an
idea.
Mercutio- Well, why not?
Romeo- I had a dream last night…
that this dance won’t go well.
Mercutio- Yeah, so did I.
Romeo- Well, what was your
dream about?
Mercutio- I dreamt that dreamers
often lie.
Romeo-When we are asleep, we
don’t lie.
Mercutio- Romeo, we all dream
things. That doesn’t mean that
they will come true. They are like
children’s stories in some ways
that they either give you a false
emotion of either happiness or
sadness. That story can be twisted
into whatever mood you want it
to have. Your dream meant
nothing to you. Dreams aren’t real
life and you can’t take them
seriously.
Romeo-Hold on Mercutio! You
aren’t talking about anything right
now.
Mercutio-You’re right. I’m not
talking about anything.
Benvolio-Come on you guy’s, if
we don’t go now we’ll be too late
for the dance.
Romeo-Fine I don’t want to go,
but I will. Let’s go!
Benvolio- Alright!

(Helpers come in and start setting
up the room)
First Helper-Everyone we have to
get ready! Come on everything
has to be perfect!
Second Helper-Well you don’t
have to be so mean about it.
First Helper-Get everything out of
the way, and save me a piece of
the marzipan. (19th page)
Second Helper-Alright we’re
ready.
First Helper-You guy’s they want
us in the other room.
Third Helper-We can’t be in two
places at once you know. Make it
fast though.
(Everyone exits)
(Enter Capulet, Lady Capulet,
Juliet, Tybalt, Nurse, and the
guests)
Capulet- Hello everyone! All your
costumes look amazing! Everyone
that isn’t dancing get out of the
way and let’s get the music going
and it’s time to start dancing!
(Music starts everyone starts
dancing)
Capulet- Oh sit down cousin we
are too old to be dancing. How
long has it been since we have
been dancing at a masquerade
dance?
Capulet Cousin- Well, I guess it’s
been about 30 years now.
Capulet-Oh, no it hasn’t. At most
it’s been 20 or 25 years since
then.
Capulet Cousin-It has been a lot
longer than that. His oldest son is
30.
Capulet-You
liar! (Lightheartedly) It has only
been two years since he was a
minor.
(Switch to Romeo)
Romeo- (to a serving man) who of
the girls here would want to
dance with me?
Serving Man-I’m sorry but I don’t
know.
Romeo-Have you seen a girl that
is so beautiful that she makes all
the others look like nothing? Do
you know her? I want to dance
with her.
(Switch to Tybalt)
Tybalt-He, over there, is a
Montegue. I can tell by the way
he’s acting. Why would he dare
come here? He can’t be here. I’ll
go make sure he leaves.
Capulet-Hey! Where are you
going?
Tybalt-He is a Montague, he isn’t
supposed to be here!
Capulet- Is that Romeo? Oh yes, it
is. Leave him alone, he isn’t doing
anything wrong. As long as he
isn’t trying to mess up our dance
leave him alone he’s just trying to
have a good time.
Tybalt-He would get in here
somehow, wouldn’t he?
Capulet-Well you can deal with
him for a night. Get rid of your
attitude and have fun. Who cares
if he’s here?
Tybalt-But he shouldn’t be here.
Capulet-You’re a rude boy. Just
leave Romeo alone for a night. It
won’t kill you to.
Tybalt-Fine I’ll try to ignore him,
but if he does anything to mess
this up I won’t keep my patience.
