A Detailed Lesson Plan in English

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. identify the three degrees of comparison;
b. construct sentences using the three degrees of comparison of adjective; and
c. value the importance of the degrees of comparison through comparing or
describing things.

three degrees of comparison
namely- the positive,
comparative and the superlative
degree.

Now, let’s have first the


positive degree.
Positive degree
*simply describe a person or a
thing.

Diane’s hair is long.
- Class, remember that positive
degree describes a noun or pronoun
without comparing it to anyone or
anything else.
Okay, let us move on to the second
degree of comparison which is the
comparative.
 Comparative degree
-comparison of two persons or
things.
-from the word itself compare,
meaning were going to compare
a person, objects or an item.
Example:
Jen’s hair is longer than Diane’s.

 Superlative degree
*comparison of three or more
persons or things.
Example:
Mikay’s hair is the longest among all
the girls.
- In the degrees of comparison, we
have also some rules to be followed.
First: For one-syllable adjectives, add
-er to form its comparative and -est to
form its superlative degrees.

Kath’s bag is small.
Louie’s bag is smaller than kath’s.
Jaen owns the smallest bag.
Second: For two-syllable adjectives
ending in y, change y with i and add -er
to form its comparative and add -est to
form its superlative degrees.

Third: For two/more syllable
adjectives, add more to form its
comparative and most to form its

Fourth: Some adjectives irregularly
form their comparative and superlative
degrees by changing the spelling.
