This morning, we are going
to discuss about the degrees of
comparison.

Superlative degree
*comparison of three or more
persons or things.
Example:
Mikay’s hair is the longest among all
the girls.
- In the degrees of comparison, we
have also some rules to be followed.
First: For one-syllable adjectives, add
-er to form its comparative and -est to
form its superlative degrees.
Positive Comparative Superlative

Example:
Kath’s bag is small.
Louie’s bag is smaller than kath’s.
Jaen owns the smallest bag.
Second: For two-syllable adjectives
ending in y, change y with i and add -er
to form its comparative and add -est to
form its superlative degrees.
Example:
My mother is pretty.
My sister is prettier than she is.
I am the prettiest among all girls in the
family.
Third: For two/more syllable
adjectives, add more to form its
comparative and most to form its
superlative degrees.

Example:
A bicycle is expensive.
A motorcycle is more expensive than a
bicycle.
A car is the most expensive of all.
Fourth: Some adjectives irregularly
form their comparative and superlative
degrees by changing the spelling.
Example:
Kc has a good penmanship.
Jhon’s penmanship is better than Kc.
Among the three, Marie has the best
one.
3. Application
Let’s have an activity. I will
divide you into 4 groups. All you have
to do is to construct a sentence using the
3 degrees of comparison. Select a leader
to present your work in front.
