BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: RELATIONAL

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: RELATIONAL

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: RELATIONAL Relational data allows coordination, and discovery of relationships

allows us to take multiple pieces of Information and cross reference them, making connections, finding correlations between content and criteria that inform design decisions and streamline coordination.

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: PARAMETRIC
In statistics, a parametric model or parametric family or finite-dimensional model is a family of distributions that can be described using a finite number of parameters. These parameters are usually collected together to form a single k-dimensional parameter vector θ = (θ1, θ2, …, θk). In 3D Software, Parametric means that the Data drives the Form, a reversed relationship from the idea of sculpting, or traditional architecture.

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: PARAMETRIC
Parametric Modeling produces very functional traditional objects And allows complex data to be used to create solutions to complex problems, or interesting forms.

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

BIM :: TECHNOLOGY :: 3D

IS BIM 3D?
Not Necessarily, but a Building is 3D, so it’s likely that 3D information is stored in the information Model.

If not 3D, What is BIM?

Not more meetings… more information transfer Not more drawings… richer discussions More integrated and frequent contact reduces the time spent developing potentially divergent strategies. Integrated Modeling and design can create more focus, and reduce lost time, increasing efficiency.

If
Drawings, Documents are side effects of a well-constructed Building Information Database

This is good because
Good Data makes good design

Then
Building the database has to come first.

Early Data = Opportunity for early analysis.

BIM FOR K-12 FACILITIES

MAKE BIM PAY :: COSTS
A typical school district with 4,000 students pays over \$400,000 for energy-related utilities each year. Incorporating energy-efficient design improvements could potentially save that district over \$100,000 annually, enough to pay for three maintenance positions; replacement of gym bleachers; all roof maintenance, repair, and replacement needs over the life of the facilities; or annual requirements for instructional supplies.
