Mechanics and Guidelines for Acoustic Band Competition

1. There will only be one entry per curriculum

2. The schedule for screening will be on the following dates;
a. Grade 7 – August 15, 1:00-1:30 P.M.
b. Grade 8 - 1:30 – 2:00 P.M.
c. Grade 9 - 2:00- 2:30 P.M.
d. Grade 10 - 2:30 – 3:00 P.M.
e. Grade 11 - 3:00- 3:30 P.M.
f. Grade 12 - 3:30- 4:00 P.M.

Note:
 You may send more than 2 groups for each curriculum to be screened, but only one will be
chosen to represent the grade level. The purpose of the screening is to select the best possible
contest to represent the grade level.
 If in case, there is only one possible contestant, then they will automatically be the
representative of the grade level.

3. Each group is composed 3 to 6 members and they are as follows;

a. Singer (s) or back up vocals
b. Guitarist (s)
c. Beatbox
d. Shakers
e. Bassist
Note:
 Shakers and Bassist are optional instruments it depends on the availability
 Only acoustic instruments are allowed, Electric Guitar is not allowed except for the electric bass
due to the scarcity of the acoustic bass, but still bassist are optional.
 Acoustic guitar with amplifier is permitted
 Choreography is optional and not in the criteria for judging.
 Contestant should bring their own instruments.

4. Representative groups will play the following;

a. One short Jingle with a maximum playing time of 30 seconds to 1 minute only: it may
contain the theme of the intramurals, about your grade level or about the school in general.

b. 1 Song choice of the group, it can be any OPM song in any genre, it may be English or
Tagalog or Bisaya which does not exceed to 5 minutes and as long as it does not contain the
following ;
a. offensive words to a particular group, or individual
b. it does not contain any lewd, messages that provokes violence or any misbehavior.
c. vulgar languages and lyrics.

5. On the day of the contest proper:

a. 12:15 P.M. ------------------ Sound Check
b. 12: 30 P.M. ------------------ Pot Luck for all entries
c. 1:00 P.M. ------------------ Contest Proper Begins
d. 2:20 P.M. ------------------ Contest Ends

Note:
a. Please make sure all contestants and coaches are on the venue before the contest proper

6. The Verdict of the Judges is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:

Musicality ( Arrangement, Harmony, Dynamics, Tones,) ------------------- 50%
Stage presence ( Concentration, alertness, Posture,)---------------------- 15%
Rendition and Interpretation -------------------------------------------------- 30%
Audience Impact -------------------------------------------------------------- 10%
