MY RESEARCH PLANS

The course I choose for this essay is Introduction to Political Science. This is the main
course that I studied in my first year as a student at Political Sciences Faculty and it is also one of
my favourite courses till now. The major aim of this class is to define political science and its
conceptual framework, by outlining its interpretative ability. What I have learned in this class is
how to focus on both the historical and comparative approach. Moreover, I had the opportunity
to read some interesting authors and their ideas and that helped me to compare their ideas easily
and also to make my own ideas about some subjects. The lectures intend to introduce to the
students the basic concepts of political science regimes, state, political parties, ideology,
transition, and the fundamental theories and objects of the discipline.

Last year I read both philosophical books and sociological and political books and I must
admit that I like philosophical books because it make me questioning about the past and life
secrets. This course made me fix better the knowledge I already had about some actual political
problems but it helped me to discover the beauty of philosophy through the eyes of Cicero,
Platon or Aristotel.

For example, a class that I liked was the class about political regimes and because I liked
it so much I read about political regimes a lot. By reading authors like Platon, Aristotel,
Machiavelli, Montesquieu, Pierre Manent I could compare their own vision about a perfect
political regime. On one hand, Platon had five forms of political regimes and he describes all of
them in his masterpiece named “Republic”. On the other hand is Pierre Manant, a modern French
author that I liked particularly.

First of all, Pierre Manant is a contemporary French author and the book that I’ve read is
“Le regard politique. Entretiens avec Bénédicte Delorme-Montini”. . He teaches political
philosophy at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, in the Centre de recherches
politiques Raymond Aron. Every autumn, he is also a visiting teacher in Boston College at the
department of Political Science. This book is an autobiographical work, philosophical image
crystallized around three heights of human life, namely, philosophy, religion, and politics. For
Cristian Preda, the Romanian author that translated Pierre Manent’s work, the book gets through
three perennial ideas illustrated in the introduction made by it. Once we are allowed to pursue the

formation of an important politician. The second time, the author's intention is to formulate a
policy, while he was genuine. The third time, the author, in a way that evokes “the original (...) a
topic that seems out of reach to anyone ".

Pierre Manent shall structure the book in five parts in the form of an interview with
Benedicte Delorme-Montini precisely to reveal to the public environment in which he grew up
and where he formed first as a man and as a philosopher, but also their own conceptions of the
world, religion, democracy.

Throughout the book, we can oberve that the author emphasizes the concept of “thomist
school”, especially in the second part of the book and feels grateful for that opportunity to study
Aristotle. Greater gratitude one feels for Leo Strauss because of the opportunity to meet his
disciple, Allan Bloom. I would note that the work of Pierre Manent is a book of political
philosophy, a comprehensive dialogue that puts you in the context of multidisciplinary analytical
approach. The author emphasizes the analysis on things seemingly simple but essential and
through the answers given outlines its qualities as honesty and the ambition to learn more and
more everytime.

The reason why I chose this object of study for my future specialism is that it give me the
chance to read what I really like and it push me to go beyond my limits. Every time I think of
this course I am in a desperate need to know what the political reality is and I am hungry of new
information and new books to read. This course helped me a lot to get over my repulsion for
philosophy and I’m greatful to my teacher for this. What I like at this course is that it isn’t only
about policy. It is also about real life problems, about unkown concepts and unknown problmes
for our generation. My ambition is to find out more about the problemes that we confront with
and to find a solution for them.

In conclusion, the Introduction to Political Science course made me realize that we live in
an uncertain age and we must be up to date with political problems of the world we live in.
