Fact Sheet D6B250, EM-EC99


D6B250 is a straight six-cylinder, six-litre diesel engine
with a Waste Gate turbo compressor and an intercooler.
The engine is a further development of Volvo's thoroughly
tested D6A engine series. The D6B250 engine's functions
are managed totally electronically, which contributes to
low fuel consumption and low exhaust and noise emissions.
The diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities have also
been considerably improved compared with the previous
generation of engines.
The D6B250 meets EU's requirements regarding exhaust
and noise emissions (EURO 3). The fuel consumption of
the D6B Euro 3 engine is comparable with that of the D6A
in Euro 2 configuration.
The electronic engine control and a high-precision injec-
tion pump inject the exact amount of fuel. This, together
with high charge pressure from the turbo compressor, high
injection pressure, high compression and an optimization
of the position of the nozzles in the combustion chamber
results in efficient combustion.
D6B250 produces a great deal of torque within a wide
range of engine speeds. This results in quick response and
smooth driving properties, which in turn contributes to
low fuel consumption.
The D6B engine's service intervals have been extended,
which keeps maintenance costs down. The oil is to be
changed no later than every 40,000 km or every six
months depending on the driving conditions.
D6B250 is designed for heavy regional distribution and
community service, as well as light construction transports
and long haul traffic.
