CESAR VALLEJO

Cesar Vallejo was born on


March 16, 1892 in Santiago de
Chuco, a remote village in the
Andes of Peru. He grew up in a
huge family of eleven children.
He atended Universidad de la
Libertad in where he received a
master degree in Spanish
Literature in 1915. After his
studies he moved to Lima
where he lived a Bohemian
lifestyle.
In 1918, Vallejo left Trujillo and in the same year he
published his first collection of poems The Black Heralds.
By the end of 1919, he returned to Santiago de Chuco, but
he went into prison.
He began to write his poems in the local newspapers. In
1922 he publihed his second poems Trilce.
Next year,, he left Peru and moved to Europe, first Paris and
then Madrid. He never came back to his homeland.
He died one year before the publication of Human Poems in
1939.
