Ahrida Synagogue Ahrida Sinagogu

One of the oldest and most beautiful synagogues in Istanbul. Founded before the Muslim
Conquest with a capacity of 500 worshippers, and has been in use ever since.

The Patriarchate Church of Saint George

The primary Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Istanbul (still in use today) and the seat of the
Ecumenical Patriarchate in the city.

Bulgarian St. Stephen Church Bulgar Kilisesi / Sveti Stefan Kilisesi

A Bulgarian Orthodox Church made entirely of cast iron and steel – a surviving example of
prefabricated cast iron churches. The materials were produced in Vienna in 1871 and
shipped along the Golden Horn where it was then assembled on shore. The church was
needed for the Bulgarian community who had broken away from the Greek Orthodox
Patriarchate just up the hill.

Fener Greek Orthodox High School

The oldest surviving Greek Orthodox School in Istanbul.

Pammakaristos Church Fethiye Camii

This Byzantine church held the seat of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate from 1456-1587. It
was later converted into a mosque in the late 16th century by Murat III and renamed to
commemorate his conquest of Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Church of St. Mary of the Mongols Kanlı Kilise

Constructed in the late 13th century, it’s the only Byzantine church that has never been
converted to a mosque and has always remained in the hands of the Greek Orthodox
Church, thanks to Fatih Sultan Mehmet II. Named after Maria Palaiologina, an illegitimate
Byzantine princess who was married off to a Mongol Khan and lived with him in Persia for
15 years. After her husband’s assassination she returned to Constantinople and built this
church and lived her remaining days as a nun until her death.

1) Otağtepe Park- When I told him I was looking for Bus 15M he quickly answered:
Otağtepe, beautiful view.

Located on the Anatolian side (Asian side of Istanbul), from Uskudar it’s about a 40 minute
bus ride. The park is small but the view is breathtaking.

From Uskudar: Bus 15M to Otağtepe

From Kadıköy: Bus 14M to Otağtepe
When you get off the bus walk exit to the left towards Otağtepe Kafe and turn right on
Doğal Sokak, it’s about a 5 minute walk to reach the park.

7) Moda Park by the Sea of Marmara and past rainbow stairs, through a neighborhood
with murals. Another set of rainbow stairs, sans green, spotted within Moda Park on
Yenikapı Çk. Sokak. Besides walking the duration of the park (approximately 45
minutes), I recommend taking a break and climbing the stairs in Moda to the Moda
Cay Bahcesi (Moda Tea Garden). The perfect place for a cup of tea with a view above
Moda Park of the Sea of Marmara with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in the
distance.

Ferry Eminonu-Arnavutkoy

1) Arnavutkoy buildings - iskelesi. Walking away from the Bosphorus up the main
street, Beyazgül Sokak. Located about a 10 minute walk on the left, Kireçhane Gediği
Sokak. Walking up the hills of the cobblestone streets of Arnavutköy reveal views of
both the bridges that cross the Bosphorus and connect Europe to Asia.

2) Bebek buildings

3) Rumeli Hisarı, 34470 Sarıyer/Istanbul, Turkey inclus in Museum Pass

Oprire cafea la Lokma, Rumeli Hisarı, Yahya Kemal Cd. No:18, 34470 Sarıyer/İstanbul,
Turkey

4) Borusan Contemporary. Only open on the weekends with a 10TL entrance fee, 5TL
for students/teachers, the building is both home to Borusan Contemporary’s
headquarters and an art museum. The 10-story building is filled with a permanent
art collection, exhibitions, and office spaces, hence why it’s only open to the public
on the weekends. Best of all you’re given access to the roof with a breathtaking view
of the Bosphorus – that alone, in my opinion is worth the price of admission!
5) Emirgan Park

6) Cartierul Eminonu

7) Bazarul de mirodenii

8) Moscheea Rustem Pașa

9) Plimbare cu vaporasul

If you’re standing right in front of the Spice Bazaar with the Eminönü ferry port to the left
and the Galata Bridge behind you, walk away from there towards the Süleymaniye Mosque
and parallel to the water, about 10 minutes.

After some digging on Google Maps after I came home, I believe the main street (from
where the last photo was taken from) is Kebapçıhanı Sokak, 2 34116 Süleymaniye. So with
that address, if you can find the building with a big, red sign that reads ‘hisar’, to the right of
that is the set of rainbow stairs. From there you can enjoy what I experienced above, but
backwards! Or use the address of the restaurant right next to the strings of hot air balloons:

precis-buyukada.html

Odata ajuns in Kabatas, m-am lamurit ca am
secunde sa ne asezam la coada si sa sarim in primul vapor in directia Insulelor Printeselor.
