1 Introduction:
This document is intended to provide hydraulic design basis for process and utility lines.
It summarizes the hydraulics and line sizing calculations performed to validate the
summary provided in FEED package [Ref.-1].
This calculation summary presents the results of line sizing calculations for the major
Process & Utility loops in DHU (NOCL). The sizing calculations are based on Samsung
design criteria.
2 Basis of design:
2.2 Vapor Line size is designed with compressible isothermal flow equation
2.3 For two-phase flow, the line size is determined such that the velocity remains below
erosion velocity by avoiding:
-Churn and plug flows (bubbly slug) for vertical upwards flow
2.4 Specifications in FEED package such as line size, pump head etc. are treated as a
minimum. Only upward revision is done, if required.
2.5 The equivalent length has been calculated using the isometrics.
3 Methodology:
3.1 Pressure drop & velocity calculations have been carried out using in-house software
for major process lines.
3.2 In house line sizing program (MS Excel Spreadsheet) is used for Simple single
phase line sizing.
