Screeding work Instruction Manual

1.0 OBJECTIVE
To outline the work instruction by which the floor screeding works are carried out.

2.0 MATERIALS
Cement and Sand (Plaster Mix).

3.0 EQUIPMENT
Shovel, stiff broom, screeding darby, steel trowel, laser level etc. as applicable.

4.0 PREPARATION WORKS


4.1 Obtain relevant approved construction drawings from Architect.

4.2 Make sure the surface of floor receive screed is clear of mortar, plaster, paint,

grease or dust.

4.3 Apply waterproofing agent to any specified area according to the drawing

before applying floor screeding.

4.4 Determine the thickness of screeding required for various floor finishes.

4.5 Set out and mark the finished floor level at the wall faces. Place mortar floor

level pegs at specific locations on the floor as reference to finished floor level.

4.6 Use laser level equipment to levelling the required fall gradient and mark with

mortar floor level pegs.

4.7 Close all floor trap opening, services pipe, etc. on the floor before proceed.

5.0 WORK METHODOLOGY


5.1 Wet the floor surface with water before commencing screeding work.

5.2 Apply the mortar mix on the floor until it is even with the level pegs.

5.3 Use screeding darby made of steel or timber to compact and tamp down the

mortar and ensure it is well compacted.

5.4 Levelling the floor screed by keeping it pressed firmly against the mortar level

peg and scrape the excess mortar off.

5.5 Allow the screeded bays to harden and prevent from being disturbed or

damaged during screeding of subsequent bays.

5.6 If a smooth wearing surface is required, use the steel trowel held in a flat

position to float and create a smooth paste on the surface.
