1. SCOPE
This specification provides performance and test requirements for PIP Tags.

2. REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Source Material

PIP Tags are conditioned per strip of 5 radioactive sources of Co-60 in metallic form sealed between
two plastic sheets.

2.2 Source Strength

Apparent source strength, as measured shall be between 148 and 222 kBq (between 4 and 6 µCi).
Note: The uncertainty of measurement method is typically estimated at +/- 7%.

2.3 Source Design and construction

Pertinent dimensions, tolerances, and features are characterized for each PIP Tag by the
manufacturer drawing VZ-3433-001 attached to this part.

2.4 Marking
The PIP Tags batch number and serial number shall be printed onto the strip, according to the
drawing below.
The lettering shall not be less than 2 mn high.

2.4.2 Serial Number:

The serial number is given for one strip of 5 tags.

3. MANUFACTURER’S TEST
The following tests shall be performed by the source manufacturer:
- Source Strength Measurement, Manufacturer’s procedure
- Wipe Test A, ISO 9978, Sub-Clause 5.3.1

Test performed to a specified standard shall be performed to the latest available revision.
All test equipment shall be calibrated and the calibration shall be traceable to National Standards
(e.g.NIST: National Institute of Standards and Testing or NPL: National Physical Laboratory).

to Schlumberger for review.

5.2 Shipping Copy Documentation

A shipping copy of test results shall accompany each source. The following documentation shall be
reported as a minimum:

Source Code:
Batch Number:
Radionuclide: Co-60
Nominal Activity: 185 kBq (5 µCi), 37 kBq (1 µCi) per tag.
