CATHARTIC THEORY

 The theory states that expressing or getting out one's aggression and anger
should reduce the feeling of aggression.
 Catharsis is a concept in psychoanalytic theory wherein the emotions
associated with traumatic events come to the surface. The word has its
origin in a Greek term for cleansing or purging, and catharsis is associated
with the elimination of negative emotions, affect, or behaviors associated
with unacknowledged trauma.
 Catharsis is an emotional release first use by Sigmund Freud.
SIGMUND FREUD
was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical
method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient
and a psychoanalyst. Freud was born to Galician Jewish parents in the
Moravian town of Freiberg, in the Austrian Empire.
Surplus Energy Theory

 It was Herbert Spencer (1873), however, a 19th century British philosopher

and psychologist, who is credited with the surplus energy 'theory' of play.
Like Schiller, Spencer saw play as the way in which animals and humans
discharged surplus or excess energy through physical activity.
 SURPLUS ENERGY THEORY: "In surplus energy theory excess energy is
expended in play.“
