October 2010 It’s Enrollment Time!
Check Out These Exciting Project Changes! All members will receive the 2010-11 Rock County 4-H Project Guide at their October club meetings. You MUST use this Guide when enrolling in 4-H projects! There are some exciting changes to some projects: Foods and Nutrition, project code 40401, now includes ALL foods-related areas: Foods Preservation, Cake Decorating, Foods Revue and Baking with Honey. There is no longer a separate code for Foods Preservation. If you enroll in 40401 – Foods and Nutrition you can now do ALL the areas in foods including Foods Preservation! Mechanical Sciences, project code 50011, is a NEW project that includes the areas of Model Aircraft, Model Rocketry, Bicycling, Small Engines and Scale Models. There are no longer separate codes for those projects. If you enroll in 50011 – Mechanical Sciences you can now participate in events and activities for all five of those areas! Horticulture, project code 70061, is a NEW project that includes the areas of House Plants, Flower and Home Grounds. There are no longer separate codes for those projects. If you enroll in 70061 – Horticulture you can now do all three of those areas! We hope the consolidation of these projects will help members in making decisions about what they want to learn and do in 4-H for the coming year! Have fun choosing your projects!

Wisconsin 4-H Youth Protection Program
Can you believe it! It is already time for enrollment and signing up for projects! When you sign up this year please give consideration to the leaders in your project areas. They set aside time to teach you, giving up time they could be doing something else. Make their volunteer time count. Be sure to set aside time to attend their meetings. If there is a very good reason you cannot attend the project meeting, call your leader and inform them...it’s your responsibility.
Reminder to Members About Club Project Meetings…
If you are in 6th grade and older, think seriously about taking the Youth Leadership Project. This is the 6th year that members are eligible to enroll in 6 projects plus the Youth Leadership Project. What does this mean to you? Within this project you are able to challenge yourself to step into a project or activity leader role or a committee leader role on the club and or county level. There are many different types of roles that you can be in from helping one on one, to leading any size group. This is an area where you can work with an adult or take a leadership role on yourself.
The Youth Leadership Project… Is it for You?
Also, if you are interested in participating in award trips, the applications ask “What leadership roles have you taken?” and enrolling and being active in this project is just what you need. So be sure to enroll.
Please NOTE a date change from October 12th to the 26th! Plan to attend to learn more about the project and help evaluate the progress that has been made over the last 4 years. You can help make new changes and be part of learning more about what others are doing. If you have any questions contact Julina Brown at 879-2251 or Sue Fredrich at the UWEX Office at 7575690.

Whether you sing or dance or you would like to learn, HeatWave is looking for you. HeatWave is Rock County’s 4-H show choir and it is almost time to sign up for the 2011 season.
Do you like to entertain? Do you enjoy applause? Are you looking for leadership opportunities? Do you want to learn about staging a show or how to choreograph? Are you interested in making new friends? These opportunities and more are available in HeatWave. HeatWave does not hold auditions. The group is open to anyone enrolled in the Rock County 4-H program who is at least 13 years old or older as of January 2011. Members need to have a willingness to learn; need to be enthusiastic and cooperative; and must be responsible and committed to hard work. Current HeatWave members have until October 15 to register their intention to be a part of HeatWave to insure membership for the coming year. This must be done in writing! Current members may still register after that date but they will be accepted in the same manner as new members at that time. New member registrations MUST BE MAILED ON OR AFTER October 15 and ON OR BEFORE December 1. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. The order will be determined by postmark. The size of the group is limited to 30 members. If the quota is reached, those registering last will be placed on a waiting list. All who register will be contacted in mid-December to confirm membership. Rehearsals will begin in early January and will probably be held every Saturday through March, with one or two exceptions, and in April and May as needed. Attendance and other requirements, costume costs, etc. will be discussed at the first meeting. For more information call Janet Kassel at 876-6311 or visit our website at www.heatwave4hshowchoir.org
