PHYSICS PROPOSAL
RUBE GOLDBERG
CONTRAPTION

Submitted by:

Submitted to:
Mr. Reymark Reglos
I. Name: Dulce el Diente
II. Purpose: To filter different candies specifically, (Skittles, M&M peanut and Nips)
through a Rube Goldberg Contraption. The goal of the contraption is to turn a switch
on which would trigger the release of filtered sweets.

## V. Steps and Physics Principles Involved

1. The contraception will be placed on six to eight tables with a dimension of 23.91
in. X 15.94 in.
2. The mover of the motion, to be exerted by a monkey plushie, will cause the marble
to move up a vertical series of inclined planes, which by structure would increase
the speed of the marble. Since the cause of motion has a greater net force than the
marble at rest, it will create an unequal force. thus, its motion will induce the marble
to transfer the energy from the current series to the other until it reaches the peak
of the series.
3. The gravity coming from the Earth will foster a free fall downwards and into the
mouth of the funnel.
4. It will reach the funnel and begin to move in a circular motion respective to the
shape and function of a funnel. The initial power originates from the point the
marble falls from the top of the series of inclined planes until it reaches the mouth
of the funnel. Gravity takes over as the marble reaches the funnel. It will shoot onto
the funnel surface at a precise speed and angle. It is the height and angle of the
ramps or the place from which the marble falls from is what provides the correct
angle and speed
5. The marble will fall into a diagonal ramp moving directly towards the dominoes
standing in a row. The marble will be the force that will act upon the dominoes at
rest. This will initiate the dominoes to fall on one another.
6. The movement of another contraception will be launched because of the force
coming from the falling dominoes. The attached tape in the rod is to move in a
circular motion as it uncoils, causing the fall of dominoes standing ahead.
7. As the last domino falls in the series, the force from the domino will be transferred
to one end of a simple machine specifically a lever. A lever consists of a nonmoving
pivot with a fulcrum point that is in the middle of the lever which is used to lift
objects with a reduced downward force or resistance. In the contraption, the lever
is used to transfer the energy from the domino to the other end of the lever thrusting
the marble to the next series and thus, work is created.
8. The marble thrusted from the lever will disrupt the potential energy stored in the
popsicle domino. The popsicle domino is a series of popsicle sticks that is arranged
in a particular weave called the “Cobra Weave” which pushes the stick backwards
and stores energy. When the popsicle domino is triggered to release its potential
energy, the popsicle domino moves and exhibits kinetic mechanical energy. Kinetic
energy is mechanical energy at motion due to the object’s motion and potential
energy is mechanical energy that is stored in an object due to its position. The
popsicle domino is utilized in this segment to display the capacity of an object with
potential energy to transform into kinetic energy and move the marble to the next
part.
9. The marble moves down into another inclined plane so to increase its speed due to
the 9.8m/s2 acceleration of gravity that acting upon it. Thus, moving towards the
funnel. Gravity is a force where a body draws objects toward its center. In this
case, the funnel is used to shift the marble into the center until, by virtue of free fall,
falls down to a cup. With the cup in the area where the toy car is unstable because
of its low center of gravity, the marble falling will cause the toy car to move down
another inclined plane (with same function as the aforementioned above).
10. It pushes another set of dominoes ahead which is caused by force created from the
previous dominoes as kinetic energy is transferred from one tile to another and a
push is created to produce consistent fall among the dominoes. And the last tile
will cause the book blocking the hand (toy/fake hand) to press the switch. Potential
energy from the object at rest is set in motion creating kinetic energy.
11. The created candy filter machine will begin to work through electricity from the
battery. The candy filter machine will be created with the specified materials and
will be designed by the group. Filtration is made possible through electricity and
separation through difference in sizes of pathways. The candies will fall separately
(already filtered) in their respective containers.
