BEST PRACTICES

1. Learning by doing is one of the best educational practices offered by the

immersion program. Although the school provides the laboratory for various
TVL strands, the actual work experience is the best way to test the
accumulated knowledge and skills of the students. This principle posits that
80% of learning is acquired by doing.

2. Knowledge and skills coupled with the ability to work with people are
measures of success in the work place. This practice is also known as WIT +
GRIT = SUCCESS.

3. Confidence is boosted when the learner experiences success in the

learning process. Increase in the level of confidence is very much evident
in our immersion students, particularly in the following areas:

A. Self-expression or communication skills

B. Interpersonal skills
C. Ability to work with a team
D. Sense of responsibility
E. Self-esteem and self-worth particularly the TVL students
F. Awareness of the dignity of labor

4. Independent learning or “Learning How to Learn” is one of the goals of the

K to 12 Curriculum. Students who engage in both actual work immersion
and research projects definitely develop the ability to learn and do things
independently. They are given the opportunity to apply their acquired
knowledge and skills to understand, explain and devise solutions to
problems at hand.
IMPACT OF THE SHS ACTIVITIES TO THE ACCESS
and EQUITY and QUALITY and RELEVANCE

1. The work immersion has provided avenues for the students to put into
practice whatever knowledge, skills and attitudes they have learned from
their classrooms.

All our TVL-Automotive students (2017-2018) passed and were issued their
NCII Assessment certificate which made them competitive, perchance
they choose to find work for a living.

2. Engagement in research projects helped the students to:

A. Explain the occurrences of events or phenomenon both in their

immediate and global society.
B. Increase awareness of the problems besetting generation of the
millennial and possibly the next generation.
C. Become critical thinkers and active participants in intellectual discourse
involving various issues affecting their society through the results of their
project studies.

3. Applied Entrepreneurship Activities gave the students opportunities to put

to test their acquired knowledge and skills in economics, accounting,
marketing and management.
ISSUES and CHALLENGES

1. Confusion regarding the implementation of the work immersion

program when in the middle of school year 2017 – 2018, PEAC
and DepEd announced that work immersion is not anymore a
requirement for academic track/strands; and that only the TVL
track is required of work immersion program.

When we were assured of the veracity of this announcement,

we immediately suspended the scheduled work immersion
schedules for our students in the academic track, and guided
the students to work on their research projects in lieu of the work
immersion.
2. Related industries may be available but not all are willing to
accommodate students for immersion, otherwise, very limited
number of students are accommodated at a time.
3. Schools don’t have uniform subject offerings per semester. This
poses problems for transferees.
4. Change of track is inconvenient because of the possibility of
subject deficiencies.
5. Bridging program should be provided for students who
graduated the track that is not aligned to the course the
students intend to pursue in college.
6. Availability of qualified instructors particularly in applied and
specialized subjects. In the advantage, though, are schools
with tertiary education.
7. Some companies prohibit any kind of documentation,
particularly pictures or videos of their offices and facilities.
LESSONS LEARNED AS WORK IMMERSION IMPLEMENTERS

1. Early processing of documents should be done to avoid unnecessary

delays in the implementation of the program and early placement of
students in various industries.

2. There’s a need to strengthen ties with various industries and companies.

3. To avoid confusion, an official communication regarding the requirements

for the work immersion of the academic track.
