Re: Article for the Open Journal and presentation at the quarterly Medical Staff Meeting.

Dear Directors,

The Summer 2018 issue of “The Open Journal” and the next quarterly Medical Staff Meeting will be
focused on Medical Directors and directorships at the William W. Backus Hospital. As President of the
Medical Staff and Guest Editor of “The Open Journal” I invite you to submit an article to describing
your scope of services as Medical Director, the current state of the programs you are leading, and
your vision of the future of your programs. This should include your background and qualifications for
the directorship, prior services at Backus Hospital, and any life experiences which may impact on your
leadership role and vision. An honest appraisal of any problems and deficiencies in the current program
(personnel, technical or otherwise) and ideas to address (or redress) these issues should be included in
the report. The article will be an opportunity for you to crystalize your thoughts and policies.

At the quarterly Medical Staff Meeting on September 18, 2018, all of the Medical Directors will
be asked to present a 2-3 minute synopsis of their report and then field a 1-minute question and
answer session with the medical staff. I will be inviting Elliot Joseph, President and CEO of Hartford
HealthCare Network, or his designee, to this meeting. This will be a unique opportunity for the
administration of the Hartford HealthCare Network to better understand our vision and mission in
delivering healthcare to the communities of Eastern Connecticut.

The above request is voluntary, not compulsory, but full participation would be greatly appreciated to
kick off the new medical year and a celebration of the 125th anniversary of the William W. Backus
Hospital.
