Formative Assessment
All children in the class were able to follow along with the support from more capable
peers. Students A & B were able to predict the ongoing line of ‘run, run as fast as you
can’.

The big final assessment piece was a play that we did without the scripts, allocating each student an individual role.
However, being in reception, the summative assessment of their capabilities is built on formative observations and
work samples from throughout the duration of the unit to track their progress and give a more holistic picture.
Lesson Evaluation

What went well

• The lesson flowed together really well, due to the sequence of activities.

• Students were all really engaged, which was evidenced by their attention, giggling, eagerness
to get into the work, saying ‘again, again’ and their participation.

• Using choral reading allowed less confident learners to learn from their peers and join in when
they were ready without having a spotlight on them.

• Having them all in front of me allowed me to see what each of them were doing.

Things to work on
§ Place more ownership on the students – get them to do the work (90/10 talking rule).

§ In the future students can have individual lines.
