2018-2019 Trapshooting

Trapshooting can be a very engaging component of the agricultural curriculum when completed
safely and properly. It is a privilege of FFA members who are in good standing of the South Holt
FFA Chapter to be allowed to participate in this event. The following rules and guidelines are
not negotiable.

1. Proper safety equipment must be worn at all times during the event. Ex. Safety glasses
and ear plugs.
2. You must be a dues-paying FFA member to compete on the Trapshooting team.
3. If you mishandle your firearm you will be terminated from the team and unable to
compete in the following years.
4. All Area shoots will take place at KCTA in Smithville, Mo.
5. Guns stay unloaded until you are up to shoot.
6. All rules and guidelines of KCTA will be adhered to.

Shooter Participation
As a potential member of the South Holt FFA Trapshooting Program, I have been made aware
of the following information:
 Trapshooting has an excellent safety record. However, that doesn’t mean safety is
guaranteed to me.
 Even though it is a remote possibility, using firearms and live ammunition can lead to
personal injury or even death.
 To help prevent accidents and to help ensure my own safety and the safety of others, I
need to learn and follow firearms safety rules and the procedures of the sport.
 I must be an FFA dues paying member and pay my league fee prior to the first shoo to
 If I cannot attend a trapshoot I will let Mrs. Aeschliman know at least 1 week in advance.
I understand the risks associated with this sport, and I would still like to participate in the South
Holt FFA Trapshooting Program.

 Unacceptable: Open-toe shoes or sandals, flip-flops

time until 1 week before the shoot. On Saturday’s we do generally stop for lunch following the
shoot. Trapshooting is a team sport which means the whole team must show up to be
competitive. In the event that there is not a majority of the shooters available to participate,
the trapshoot will be cancelled.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your child has expressed interest in competing on the South Holt FFA Trapshooting team. When
performed safely, trapshooting can be a very valuable educational tool. I was hoping to hold a
meeting with potential trap shooters and their parents, but unfortunately between practices,
games, and the Autumn Festival, time has become very limited before our first shoot. It is my
hope that the information enclosed will provide the needed information until we can have a

Attached you will find the list of trapshooting dates, agreements, and waivers. Trap shoots are
once a month and occur on either a Monday or a Friday at KCTA in Smithville. Shooting times
for our Chapter can vary from month to month and I cannot reserve our time slot until a week
ahead of time. There is a shooting fee of $15.00 at KCTA. Students are expected to bring that
money with them to the shoot. Additionally, we sometimes stop and eat lunch depending on
our shooting time.

According to our Area FFA rules, students are allowed one makeup shoot and must make up the
shoot they are missing prior to actually missing it or the following shoot.

Safety is very important to me, as it should also be to your child while he/she is trapshooting.
All team members are required to wear proper ear and eye safety and exercise caution at all

Below, please indicate whether or not you wish to have your child participate in the
trapshooting for the 2018-2019 year.

_____ I wish for my student to participate in trapshooting with the South Holt FFA. I understand
that there is a $15.00 shooting fee and that shoots take place once a month and that the South
Holt R-1 School District and its partners are released of all liability associated with competing in
this activity.
