Hand washing priorto sterile compounding is extremely important. Hands must be washed for at least 30 seconds with antimicrobial soap and water. Personal protective equipment (PPE) includes all items intended to reduce the risk of ‘employee exposure tc hazerdous medication and to reduce the risk of contamina tion from employee to medication during the sterile compounding process. PPE in sterile compounding environment includes shoe covers, hair covers, face masks/ ‘eye shields, full gowns, and gloves. Table 3-5 outlines the order in which PPE should be donned prior to sterile compounding.
