Research Experience
Embedding blackbox machine learning techniques to Bayesian hierarchical occupancy model 2018
• Failure to account for false negatives in occupancy data can have a significant impact on
parameter estimates. This problem was addressed by embedding blackbox machine learning
methods in a bayesian hierarchical occupancy model.
Optimizing the spatial configuration of the Kansas Mesonet environmental monitoring network 2017
• Developed an unbiased method to determine the optimal locations of new Kansas Mesonet stations
(Presented in Annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit 2018, Governor’s Conference on the Future of
Water in Kansas 2017 and Graduate Research and the State Poster Session 2017)
Bayesian additive regression trees for bioluminescence prediction in deep sea 2017
• The focus in this study was to predict the expected number of bioluminescence sources in each depth in
deep sea, using Bayesian regression trees (BART)
Effects of location on growth rates of tree species in Sinharaja forest, Sri Lanka 2015
• Proposed a method that modifies the Ripley's K-function to calculate the growth rates of species in the
Sinharaja forest and to test whether the growth rate of individual tree species depend on its physical
location. (Presented in PGIS research congress 2015, Sri Lanka)
Determinants of nutritional status and growth rate of children, attending a well-baby clinic in 2014
Peradeniya, Sri Lanka
• Used Multinomial regression, Ordered logit/probit models, Association rule mining and Regression tree
methods
Factors affecting the special degree selection in Faculty of science, University of Peradeniya 2013
• An application of binomial logistic regression and non-parametric methods
